No sound from TV!

Hi all,

I purchased a 2005 E46 M3 coupe over the weekend. It has a hybrid TV tuner.

The picture itself is fine however there seems to be no sound coming from the TV.

I noticed that some sort of iPod link has been installed in the glove box (maybe Denison). Is it likely that the installsation of this has caused the sound to stop working? Is it easy enough to "undo" the iPod installation to get the TV sound back?

I assume that the sound would be controlled by the bottom left knob unless I'm overseeing something really basic.

Thanks for all of your help

Also, there is an auidble intereference noise when the volume is turned all the way down. It seems like a similar noise to cars where the amplifer isnt earthed properly. I've got the HK sound package. Is there any reason why I would be getting some sort of interefence/hissing when the volume is at 0?

And one last point with the bluetooth pairing! When I am in a call I can hear the caller fine but the volume of the microphone is very quiet. In addition there seems to be a lot of interference with this and almost seems some sort of feedback loop issue. Any idea what may cause this?

You'll have to ask the original installer what he did!!
If the install is non-standard, no-one on this board will have any knowledge of how your ipod interface is wired.

What input is the ipod connected to? Maybe the installer hijacked the TV sound input, maybe he disconnected the TV sound input...

Firstly confirm what interface you have, then research how it should be cabled according to the manufacturer.

Correct, the volume control controls the sound level :-)
For all sound sources.

Shouldn't be any noise, but I've no experience with the HK system.

Bluetooth is hugely variable depending on what type of phone you are using. Before you look for faults in the BMW system, try with a different make/model phone and see if it is the same.

BMW did make 2 x different microphones, see Best Sellers BMW new version upgraded Microphone for the differences in microphones. Maybe the new model microphone may perform better for you. Try and see.

Thanks for the post that's useful.

Not sure how easy it will be to contact the owner as I purchased it through a garage, however I've had a look in the boot and it appears that there are no new cables that have been run to the boot.

Therefore I'm guessing the iPod installation wires up to the front sat nav unit somehow. Does that narrow it down to any specific units? Does anyone have an installation guide for what unit it could be?

Many thanks

What input is the ipod connected to?

All audio sources are switched via the radio module which is in the boot.

I've attatched a photo of the iPod connector. There is text on a white label saying "DE35IDCK05-3" - does that narrow it down? It's taken over the 6 CD changer input and the 6 CDs relate to the playlists of the iPod.

I'll have to look in the boot more carefully over the weekend if that's where the audio switching is done, thanks!

Ipod has to plugged into radio tuner which is mounted below nav computer and behind the TV tuner.

Remove interior left-hand boot trim to reveal all devices.
Check all wiring.

Hello!

I've had a look this weekend in the boot and I'm stumped - my have to take it to someone who knows that they're doing

Taken a photo - it seems that when the iPod connector was installed they have messed with the wiring connector to the BM54.

I've checked this against the wiring diagram on the How Tos but it seems that my white plug (where the 6CD changer used to attatch) is missing some cables where they have connected the iPod adapter.

It's a shame that its been installed really badly by the looks of things.

KiwiJochen - is there anything obvious you can see from the photo?

Many thanks for your help

Looks like just the new ipod cable has been plugged in to the radio, and the original cable disconnected.

So you should find the original radio cable in that area somewhere.

Simple remove the pins from the new ipod connector and fit them to the original radio connector and insert the original connector into the radio.

That way you'll have everything restored back to normal.

Post closeup photos of the original radio connector and the new ipod connector if you want us to give you wire colours and pin numbers and wire functions to help you.
