I'm not sure if you read my 1st post here and also this thread:

http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-s...h-updates.html

Yes Tele Atlas is the new guy, but you can see their response to me and given that all BMW's will have hard drive based systems going forward, the old technology is getting laid to rest. I suppose the writing was on the wall when the last Nav update (v32) came out in June 2008 and nothing since.

Of note, the new NavTeq Land Rover disks come in two flavors.
- One DVD for North America (version 2009-2010) that covers the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and Canada, for $199.
- A second option that comes as two DVD's called the North America and Mexico version (version 2009-2010) and covers
the continental United States, Canada and now Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are included, for $349.

Brian - a letter campaign is a great idea. Want to start one? or better yet how about a website petition that people can sign up on? WWW.BMWNAVDISK.COM or something???

Maybe BMW has simply changed their supplier from NavTeq to someone else?

eg TeleAtlas sell BMW map discs for Europe:
Online Shop - Tele Atlas

So maybe TeleAtlas will become the new map supplier for BMW USA....

Thsi is very interesting, Since BMW provided the navigation systems for some Range Rovers (don't know what Years though) I wonder if the updated DVD's for Land Rover would work in The Bmw Professional DVD System? Also curious as to the actual date of the 2009-2010 update. Anyone know if is updated beyond what BMW offers?

Yes to 1st question.

The Range Rover nav system for the RRs that were made by BMW is the same as the BMW system fitted to E38, E39, X5 etc.

That fact is true, but I have already confirmed with several sources including Navteq that the RR discs will not work in the BMW.

Might be country specific.

I was fitting BMW map discs to Range Rovers, and the reversal was also true.
Because the system was the same, both cars could read the same maps

Of course, you cannot fit the BMW disc to the Ford nav system that the Ford-Range Rover used. Only to the BMW-Range Rover.

Yeah maybe country specific. The problem is with the USA since BMW Europe, etc. has had at least 2 map updates since our last one. According to all the info I've received none of the Range Rover discs will work in the BMW Nav system. Don't get me wrong I'd love for it to not be true and if someone is willing to let me test our their discs then I'll happily do so. Do you by any chance know what is the Land Rover equivalent Xoutpost forum?

Here's one for you. Drop Navcoder and make nav updates for older BMW systems using the latest updates from new BMW systems!

But WHAT systems are you comparing?

Range Rover has at least 2 nav systems from 2 completely different suppliers with totally incompatible map formats

BMW has in the last 10 years had 2 different manufacturers and at least 4 or 5 different, non compatible map formats

So you need to be more specific...

What about maybe doing some tweaking to last available maps utilizing updated NAVTEQ maps available for other devices. (maybe a reverse engineering). The current OS DVD's have already been modded a bit with graphics etc...whats the deal with upgrading the specific maps on the map DVD's/CD's?

I have the newest DVD (from 2009) for my 2006 E83 and those have never been updated with information from 2007-8. My CE based "portable" devices (self contained) using NAVTEQ have been updated. Would the formats of the maps be somewhat similiar or convertable?
