Don't take this as a personal attack, but I would be truly interested in seeing any examples of racists being stirred up against Asians as opposed to some example of someone being a racist dick to an Asian over this.

Example: Someone trashing a car of an Asian = a racist dick

Example: Group (big or small) telling folks to trash an Asian looking person's property or kick their ass = racist group fomenting violence

USA cases of coronavirus:

230 dead ÷
17,729 =
0.0129730949 × 100 =
1.297% fatality rate

Many of these are older people and/or people with other health problems.

The official number is not to be taken too seriously. You should expect the actual number of infected people to be much higher, and the mortality rate to be much higher as well.

We are WAY BEHIND the curve and continue to be as Trump and his team of cronies continue to place political motive above health and safety of the american citizens.

Given what we already know about this administration, it is wishful thinking to expect anything more from it.

If so / then

Why are you not protesting against the name spanish flu' as racist ? Why do you have to virtue signal and call racism when things clearly aren't racist, does it make you feel better about yourself ? Im just genuinely curious of your thought process.

My comments have nothing to do with anyone's political point of view. I respect you opinion and I would suggest you have more respect for mine.

I don't know if the naming it the Spanish flu escalated racism or not. It is immaterial. It was over a century ago, different time different circumstances. BMW didn't exist, no mass media, before second world war. Not applicable

On another note, I think the information to the public should be lead by the experts. When politicians are involved the experts have to become politically sensitive and we don't get straight yes or no answers. There is a spin put on information that causes confusion and more fear than if we got just the facts.

Well said. We need leadership but I don't think the president should contradict his health and safety expert for no good reason.

He's done so many incompetent things lately, and completely lost his shit with the pandemic.

I worry for America. More for having this president, less than having the virus outbreak.

We can beat this thing, but hiring the wrong man to lead the country? That's gonna do far more damage to this great nation.

For everyone's information, the "Spanish Flu" isn't at all "Spanish" or from Spain. If it were to be named according to the region it originated from, it would've been called the USA Flu. But it was deflected away from the USA in an effort to project a better image for the country.
That Flu originated in USA and went to Europe with American soldiers fighting in WWI. Then it was diagnosed and identified as new and unique strain by smart doctors in Spain. No one wanted to call it the American Flu for fear of associating America with diseases.
So you see, people knew even 100 years ago that association of disease with regions does have racist, negative image, and negative impact on reputation and economies. Even with that good knowledge they still thought it would be okay to dish it out but not okay to take it.

Human nature. We push the blame and responsibility to others so we appear above it all. Could this be a self-preservation strategy that is hard-wired into our DNA?

Homo sapiens won't evolve into a better species as long as this negative trait remains.

May I present to you the many selfless doctors and nurses in this country who are risking their lives with insufficient protection gears, bravely fighting on the front lines to defeat this virus.

They should be the ones we aspire to.

Did you get that from CNN, NPR, or MSNBC? I fully expect all of those channels to choose the America-hating version any time the facts are not 100% clear.

The truth is that the origin is very much unknown. Yes, the army base in Kansas is one of the candidates. China is too. Spain is not.

Since it spread during WWI, reporting in countries involved in the war suppressed reporting on it in fear of hurting morale. Neutral Spain, not being in the war, was free to report closer to the truth, so with much of the reporting coming from Spain, the disease itself seemed to be concentrated in Spain, and the name stuck.

USA was not trying to deflect blame in a racist way. We were saving the world.

As far as numbers go, epidemiologists say that the number of infected people are probably as much as 5x or 7x the number of confirmed cases. So if the number of infected is much higher then known cases means that the mortality rate is far, far below what is known. I say this with 100% confidence because many people may have the virus and have few if any symptoms, but nobody is dead without people noticing especially in the "percentages" we are told to expect.... Therefore with a mortality rate already below that of the average flu, people should relax a ton more.

As for the whole thing with China... The Chinese government has been pushing the blame for the virus on America through wiebo/propaganda as noted by many intelligence sources so you can bet you will see many forms of pushback, such as reiterating exactly where the virus started.

Now the part about "Chinese" folks getting beaten and other things etc...

1. These have all been the actions of individual racist dicks and not as was said (stirring up racism against) because that takes a group or a group's leadership i.e. kkk, cair, Trump, Pelosi, Schumer or so on saying find, assault, alienate or whatever to any "Chinese" looking folks and I have not seen or heard of any of that happening.

2. Chinese is NOT a race and with the exception of people like my wife, who is a Naturalized Citizen. People have no claim of hyphenated status unless anyone believes in making a statement based upon skin color? My wife doesn't even use the hyphenated descriptor because... "So people think I'm not truly part of them or that I'm only half the worth of others?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------
About Trump (my opinion only) the economy, jobs, etc are the best they have been in many many years so I'm happy. His tweets are annoying but in some of the cases necessary due to the political machinations of competing parties that with the evidence out there have made their supposition as stated fact only to have it proven false later and never retracted, which makes Trump's comments necessary but mostly ill worded.
