That take away aspect is certainly an issue, TX lawmakers are looking at data from other "open carry states (AZ for one).
If someone is going to open carry and minimize the chance of being stripped from behind, it needs to be a forward cant/release holster with a thumb activated release. Also needs to be forward of the hip bone (2 o-clock for RH, 10 0-clock for LH), this make the gun difficult to grab/grip/release/forward remove from behind. Anyone who uses a vertical, non-retention holster (at the 3 or 9 o-clock position) is asking to be stripped from behind. |
There is a standing offer of reward for an authoritative citation to a simple gun grab of an open carrier at OpenCarry.org - Discussion Forum Open Carry Dot Org discussion forum.
I took up my gun on passage of South Carolina's 1996 Law Abiding Citizens Self-Defense Act, making gun carry legal in SC. Ten years later I moved to Wisconsin that is a traditional open carry state that shortly passed Wisconsin's 2011 Act 35 that legalized permitted concealed carry. My open carry gun is an SA1911A1 in a SERPA. My concealed carry gun is an H&K USPc .40 in a Versa Carry II minimal 'holster'. My dress-up gun is a beautiful shooter Mauser-Interarms American Eagle Luger in black satin. |
Kansas Gov Brownback has signed a law that allows concealed carry without any permitting (still illegal for convicted felons to possess firearm of course).
This Gov is logical and signs laws that follow his ideals, low taxes and minimum government regulation. Ohio is still "nuts" when it comes to firearm and personal protection. A man was just given 20 yrs for shooting an armed intruder/robber IN HIS OWN HOME!!! The retarded Ohio jury felt the homeowner should have escaped HIS OWN home, climbing out his ground floor bedroom window when he heard someone inside was their logical response to this situation, not grabbing his handgun and going to investigate!!! I wonder if that's the protocol at the Ohio Gov's home, if they hear an intruder, the armed security staff all climb out windows? |
That's retarded. I just looked it up, Ohio has no duty to retreat in your home.
Unless the shooting was ruled as something other than self defense? |
Totally retarded.
It can happen when the Judge, Prosecutor, and Jury are "anti-gun", and the defendant has an idiot public defender. I didn't get any details on the story, doubt it was a "back shot" while intruder was escaping (a major no-no in claiming a justified home intruder shooting, if intruder attempts to escape, homeowner MUST allow it). |
I am not a gun owner, gun fan and live in Canada.
After reading these 3 pages guns make more sense to me now anyway, the way you guys talk about them they are a tool not a weapon. |
It's unfortunate the media only seems to report improper gun usage by citizens (most crimes averted by victims pulling handguns go unreported, and are "non-stories" for the media).
As with any tool, there are right & wrong ways to use them (children/uninstructed adults can get injured/killed when used incorrectly (you don't let a 10 yr old operate a chainsaw)). Texas State House of Reps votes on open carry today, looks like it will get the green light! This bill will also give CHL holders the ability to concealed carry handguns on college/university property. |
TX house has approved the open carry bill!!!
Gov Abbott has already stated he WILL sign it!!! Good news for TX citizens. |
Great news! Now Texans can use their Constitutionally-guaranteed rights without breaking un-Constitutional state laws. ;)
Enjoy your freedom to carry as you wish! |
I'm online shopping the Desert Eagle 50AE in stainless tonight.
