If I was to be stopped by the police I certainly would be very respectful to them I wouldn't want any extra trouble yes sir, no sir attitude can do no wrong regardless whether you are in the wrong or NOT.
you can't tar all police departments with the same brush. But TBH the traffic cops over here in the UK are total prats.

tyson is a cop and this is how he communicates - tyson quote
"Hey Soccer Boy, I saw that license plate frame you thought was cool and suggested someone should buy and put on their car. I noticed that you didn't take a picture of it on your ride....You talk like you got some hair on your nuts, why don't you get that license plate frame and put it on your ride...Let me answer that for you, you have hair just not the balls....Don't talk shit unless you yourself can back it up." enuff said |

I've had terrible experiences with cops, but I also know one personally, and he is a really decent guy. IMO, cops are up against an increasingly un-civil society, and almost all of their interaction with the tax-paying law-abiding public, is negative. Cops are lousy at PR, and far too many are pumped up on steroids and Wyatt Earp attitudes. We have a vicious circle--a society becoming rife with scum and perpetually bailed-out criminals, coupled with burned out cops with attitudes.
The original poster and the cop had a bad interaction--a cop with a heart full of adenaline thinking he had possible found a couple of joyriding crackheads enjoying the fruits of a B&E, and a private property owner (who has the gift of candor) who thought he was minding his own business. To be fair, the cop likely blocked the gates trying to prevent a grand theft getaway. Had he had an attitude after a calm and voluntary offering of registration, insurance, ID, and DMV check, then I too, as a private property owner, would have stood my ground. The fact that cops feel the public needs to treat them with some sort of elevated respect is profoundly wrong--cops are public servants, not some elite brotherhood, and we the public, are in no way out of line in the defense of our civil rights. If a cop is in law enforcement because of a personal need to feel empowered by a gun and a badge, or they become that way, they need to be removed...a cop who embarks on a vendetta of harrassment and selective enforcement is nothing more than a thug with a badge. On the other hand, if we as a society, refuse to support legislation to get a lot of the lawbreaking scum off the streets, and we demoralize law enforcement by overwhelming them, neither law enforcement, nor civil society will be well served.

Well Soccer Boy, your concerned about the way I communicate? Well let's see, if I remember right your the one posting links to various videos that disrespect the cops and links to pictures of "F*%K the Cops" license plates. Thats is the difference between you and I. You see when a gang members or some idiot on dope with a gun goes crazy, your dumb A$$ will be hiding behind some table, peeing on the floor like a 12 year old girl hoping the police come to save your diaper needing A$$. So I see it like this, the next time the shit hits the fan and you need a cop, handle it yourself, then post it on the web site so you can prove everyone that you don't need us and then you can talk shit all day long about cops and how bad they really are. I got a gut feeling though that will never happen. Now get back to work so you can pay my salary, Soccer Girl.

If you are policaman. Surely you are not allowed to speak to a member of the general public in the above manner. Do your employers know this is how you conduct yourself.?? I am from the UK and I can tell you it gives me no pleasure reading your un savoury posts. Is this accepted the words and way you talk in the USA cause I can assure it is not over here.

Dinan- I know how you must have been feeling. Few people want to be told what to do/persecuted on their own property, it'd rile me up too. As others have said, the PO was probably doing what he was trained to do: react to suspicious activity. I'd rather have a PO who erred on the side of suspicion than one who ignored someone doing burnouts in a parking lot. He was probably more looking out for your business (which at the time he didn't realize was your lot and building) than bored and looking for some heads to crack. He might well be pissed about your reaction and attitude towards him, and may indeed be acting in a vengeful way to you and your brother, but if you break the law, he has every right to write you a violation. The detriment would be if he's spending an improper amount of time waiting for one of you guys to screw up when he should be looking for violations and crime elsewhere.
You could avoid this situation by getting familiar with the local PO's (as a business owner that's a great idea and a great asset), and let them know that you'd be using your lot for some fun behind the wheel. Kinda like throwing a party and inviting the neighbors so no one complains about the noise Good luck with it, man. JV

anywayzzz...moving onnn..lets analyze this a little here .as for the original thread starter...DINANM3...sorry you had to encounter this situation, perhaps the cop was dissapointed about the way you handled him because you werent breaking the law....but you have to understnad...the cop had a badge on that said "police"...you did not have a badge on that said "owner"...when a cop pulls someone over...they dont know whether or not that person will run out on them with a gun or somethin...in this business you expect anything from people.
maybe the cops method on his first approach may have been out of line...i dunno you did'nt describe if he pulled you outta your car and held you up on gun point, but...a cop is defineately someone you want to be friends with. you would certainly want them to report to your property if a set of houligans were doing what you were doing...i been through alot growing up..and i realized...if you cant beat'm..join'm...so i joined the auxillary police department...yes thats right ...imma rent-a-cop. and i have encountered my share of jerks...they could be how they want to be...as soon as i flash my badge we're best of friends...because they know im of no harm...and i do their job fror free, he was problably more afraid of you than you were of him. as for the tough guy attitude...unneccessary whoever had the attitude....totally agreed, but try doing their job...one goof up and the whole world hears about it, he thought he was doing his job...and he left...but it seems like you started it so far..sorry to say bro....if he wanted to, he could of hauled ur asses off your "private property" and be a REAL JERK....but he left, and when you leave your private property...you're "on his property" sort of speak....yes they serve the community, but what about the many that lost their lives in the line of duty, ...doesnt that give them some sort of benefit since they put their life on the line? we say theyre not above the law...or not suppose to be...but common...how many times have you got a cop to do pushups in front of you? realistically... alot of people made some good points, thats the benefit of a forum...you can analyze this from many point of views. a civilian, cops, cops families, and auxilliary officers (cops - but -not cops) i know one thing for sure...if you were friends with him, and he gave you a pba card or somethin....you would get a somewhat better treatment than the many who dont have a relationship with a cop....hope to see u at the tristate meet...we'll have a ball talking more about this. "TAKE A BITE OUTTA CRIME!" 1) kids...no fighthing 2) cops -lets try to maintain our positive image, there are people watching us from around the world 3) civilians - stop getting pulled over, and you wont get pulled over. 4)lawyers - you guys must love the business, im sure your lawyer has a few friends that are cops...after all.."they are for the law" hence= lawyers 5) "Tyson?"...now i wonder how you got a name like that
