There are many more family friendly, religious and children's channels on TV and radio than there have ever been. There are choices out there for everyone. The sensitivity level has become so ridiculously high, if it continues, you will have nothing to choose from because everything might offend someone. I don't want to hear anyone talk about context unless you are (or were -- as I was) an Imus listener. Anyone who ever listened to him for any period of time -- and not just the now-infamous 10 second soundbite -- would know immediately that Imus was/is not a racist person.
I listened to him for more than 20 years. And, I, as anyone else who ever listened to him, know how much money he's donated to charities, how much money he's raised for charities and other worthy causes; they would know that he's a good guy who simply said something wrong. Yes, it was offensive... shit, get in line with the thousands of people he's insulted over the years -- from politicians to athletes, to his very own staff, executives... you name it! AND, CBS KNEW this....! Heck, they extended his contrat a few months ago and offered him 10 mil per year!! And, now, they're "appalled"? Please...! I hope he wins... and wins big. Juan

Juan,
Maybe your right. I'm not an Imus fan and am not familiar with his backstory. Maybe he did just get caught in a political tornado (that admittedly he started but was blown out of porportion.) Maybe he's not a racist, maybe he's not such a bad guy. Maybe I'm wrong about my current opinion of him, but again, I'm not a fan so I don't have much to base my opinion on, other than what i've seen and heard. I did have a knee jerk reaction to this issue and that knee jerk was not on the side of political correctness. It was on the side of my personal feelings about his comments which I really did not like. And I remember reading about the comment on this board, long before Sharpton, etc. got on the issue. But you a fan and you probably know better than I do. I'm interested to see what will happen with him. B

I never listened to him. And i dont believe it's necessary. If Mr. Imus is as some say in the habit of insulting thousands of people over the years what could possibly be right about that?
I don't believe for an instant that anyone who has donated to charities, no matter how much money he's raised for charities and other worthy cause deserves a brake for insulting other people. IMHO people need to quit defending a man who clearly has no couth and is responsible for what can clearly be defined as media garbage. Is he a racist? I don't know. It is clear though that from all the comments made regarding the content of his show that it fits what is called "shock Jock" media. Again i ask. what can possibility be encouraging or upbuilding about that? Answer? Nothing Quote:

I'm not a fan and I don't know if he is a racist or not. What is a fact is that the made a highly racist and insulting comment. I believe that they have any company has (or should have) the 'right' to fire someone for making racist comments.
There are many ways to shock people with insulting or contriversial comments - that's what he is paid to do. That does NOT however give Imus or anyone else the o.k. to make the highly RACIST comments that he made. Even with shock jocks there is a line (Howard Stern even holds to a line). Imus may or may not be a racist - his charitable contributions don't prove anything (the KKK donates Millions each year to various charities). Regardless, he publicly made racist comments that were not just damaging to his career and the girls on the team, but more importantly damaging to society. Spreading this kind of hate on the airwaves on a major network with millions listening (and not expecting anything like that) is an outrage. |

just heard on the news that apparently there is a delay with the Imus show and that the producers had the opportunity to edit his comments if they had thought they were out of line with what he normally says. Obviously they thought the comments weren't out of line since they didn't use the edit button. I wonder what CBS has to say about that.
