Excuse me, but on this planet, the $400-$600 withdrawn from my account in exchange for this little proprietary monster says I damn well own it. While it is a massive dickout for apple to almost hack the end user's (posessive, wagner) iPhone to delete whatever they have done, be it downloaded ringtones pre, cheaper or better than iTunes or made it work with a DECENT service provider, I still think Jobs has something up his sleeve to make it right. This isn't like apple, it's like a Mercedes-Benz lease through Herb Chambers. (shudder)

Don't have one, I'm just saying that the idea of paying $600 and not owning a phone slays me and doesn't seem right.

T-Mobile.
It has contracts with AT&T where it does work, Unicel and every other random rural wireless carrier with no roaming costs. It works well for me, even up in "the county"

I know that when I bought my blackberry, the rebate was provisional that I kept the service for XX days or whatever, but after 90 days of being a customer, they would unlock your phones at your request. I just think it is nuts that a non-subsidized phone has that kind of leeching proprietary software and limits on it.

So you don't have an iPhone. That explains it. Most people who have one have never read their contract. Get a load of this.....http://www.xoutpost.com/lounge/37655-...ut-iphone.html

Curious what 'apps' you need that can't run on an apple?

I was against apple for the longest time because of cost, I build my own PC's as well, but once I got an Apple there was no going back. Hell, few if any viruses alone is worth it if you have a business that requires the Internet.
CAD and CAM software mostly, like SolidWorks and MasterCAM. And there are MANY other choices available in those areas, not just one program from a proprietary company like Apple.

Then there's one of my favorite leisure activities, games. Not too many that I know of are able to be played on a MAC. At least not without having to install Windows on it first. I don't like the game consoles because I think the controllers suck compared to a mouse, keyboard, and good joystick. Most of the games available to play on them don't interest me either. So getting a MAC for computing and a game console for play isn't an option for me.

I'm not really AGAINST Apple computers, they're great for all sorts of things. But a PC can usually do the same things and more. Apple just doesn't quite fill all of my needs for computing.

No QS, I didn't "win". I wasn't trying to. Your Mac does what you need it to, and that's great. They just don't do what I need them to so switching has not become less of a question.

Maybe one day it will!

...and this should end the thread. Otherwise, this could go on and on and on and for nothing. You like windows, others like their macs, that's life.

Here's another topic to further hijack this iPhone thread - Back in 1966 (in the Phlippines) I was a young CPA and in awe looking at this massive IBM computer occupying the whole floor of our building and with the AC set so cold you need to wear a sweater to work in there. The as...hols working in the "Computer" department used to tell is to keep out of the place even for no reason. That darned computer will not even come close to the power of the cheapest laptop you can buy out at Costco!

Actually Ed, this did have to do with the iPhone thread. You should check out QuickSilver's new thread about the iPhone and Apple's overcontrolling nature. What I am getting at is more about Apple than the dispute over which is "better".

Be sure to read the article he linked:
