Finally got a call back today from my friends . They told me their house was saved, but their neighbors on all sides were not as lucky. They described the street as a "warzone". Their house was ok, but a lot of their property was burned (trees). They reason the fire miraclously stopped at the trees was because there was a firetruck parked in their driveway for most of yesterday. It apparently was "keeping watch" on a house across the street (a celebrities) and we think that is partly the reason the were saved.
So yes, social and public status WILL put you to the top of the list of who to save during a fire.
On the way back, the national guard was checking driver's licences. If you address was not in RSF, you were refused entry.

Less complaining? About what? The fact that help was not available? The fact that the residence who had insurance were getting hosed by their insurers?

Looting? I guess it depends on who is telling the story, and who's doing the "looting." ... I'm sorry, "surviving." I get so confused!

However, it would be absolutely negligent for California not to learn something from the events of Hurricane Katrina.

No Offense Meant to you but NOLA turned into a mad-house after Katrina and showed it's true colors, we had a LARGER evacuation then NOLA, look it up, and people did not loot, THAT was the point

I took no offense to your comment. I guess if I felt abandoned, I would act out too! There were, however, a small faction of criminals that made things difficult. Don't let the actions of a few overshadow the heroic efforts of its own citizens, and those that lent the city its support in rescuing the people of New Orleans. Those are the true colors.

New orleans pre-Katrina was about 500k in population. But you have Kenner, Metairie, St. Bernard, Covington, Mandeville, Slidell, Jefferson Parish, Gretna, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Morgan City, Houma.... get my point. Thats like you not counting the evacuations in Escondito, and other cities that comprise the affected areas. I'm not trying to get in a pissing contest, I do not want you to under or over state the facts.

Oh, I fully agree, The poor people we're fully to blame for ruining the city, but they are still part of the city, but they we're to blame for acting like savages

What do you mean? I do not understand the comment. Are you saying that the poor people ruined the city? Did I understand that correctly? If so, how so? So all of the poor people were acting like savages?

But you just explained the difference between the response in New Orleans and SD area. Economics. Who cares about the po' folks, they only ruin the city anyways, right?

Anyway, this thread was in regards to the devistation in California, not the comaprison between it and Hurricane Katrina (NOLA). Unless you insist, i will end my debate on this issue.
