I am not trying to downplay the loss of innocent life, but this is war and this happened less than 5 miles from the border of a country that has been involved in war for over 5 years now. If it were me and I lived in Syria, I would have moved way out of harms way by now. I don't know the ins and outs of the situation, but it sounds as if terrorists were simply crossing the border and hiding in what they thought was a safehaven and sort of out-of-bounds area, which is garbage. Makes me ask why Syria didn't have better border protection set up to stop terrorist and other from freely crossing borders whenever they wanted? I am not putting the blame on them, but it doesn't sound like they helped prevent the situation and may have brought some danger upon their border residents by ignoring the situation. Now that the U.S. has crossed this boundary, it may change how the terrorists operate as far as simply corssing a border and feeling safe, which is a good thing.

I feel like the terrorist have been using the rules of war against us from the beginning and it does feel somewhat good to turn the tables and get a terrorist that thought he was manipulating the rules of war.

Once again, I do think it is horrible that innocent civilians died, but it may help prevent the loss of many of our troops in the future.
Well after the raid...our government could have something like that...

Just aknowledging...in their official statements that it was horrible that civilians died...might have easened the pressure that is building in Syria right now....Instead they didn't, now look what is happening in Damascus...riots and protests ...not to mention other major countries condemning the attack...

Primetime do you understand that no matter for what reasons...once you use military force within a sovereign nation that nation has the right to defend itself?? Its not the point who wins...the point is that if Syrian forces were near our troops, they had the right to take our troops out...because we were in their country...

Uh yes I do understand that...Do you understand that ONCE AGAIN...we've been doing that for YEARS? How many times do I have to tell you this?

And make no mistake....If we're chasing terrorists across the border into Syria...You better believe we're going to do what we have to do... Just like FSETH said...This action probably saved American lives... And I'll choose saving an American life over a terrorist's life (and anybody who defends terrorists, physically, verbally, or in any other form) any day without ever giving it a second thought..This just in... we're Americans....and we protect our own.. I know..you have a problem with that...You'd rather us have tea and talk about it with the Al-Qaeda's and then apologize for our western ways...

So lets be honest. Syria isn't going to take action against the U.S. Miltarily...Sorry Eric..Sorry Dannyell...I know thats what you want everyone to believe...But that's not going to happen. Because guess what again? Its still better to be our ally then enemy...They know that too...Are they mad? yeah? Do they feel uneasy about it? yeah...But thats where it ends...No military action will be taken. It will be their death sentence..They know it. We know it. But you (Dannyell, ERic) guys just can't get that through your heads.

If they take action in their own territory and we start a war you will bet your ass it will be our fault for starting that war not theirs...

And you are understanding me wrong...I do not want anyone to take action against my country...I am simply stating that they can...and if so happens then a probable WW3 will escalate...

Looks like a new picture of this raid is emerging:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle5062848.ece
Questions raised over Syrian complicity in US raid

Syria has denounced a US strike on its territory but sources say Damascus secretly backed the raid

Seems as if the Syrians provided the intel for the raid, and were fine with it, but the soldiers were reckless and killed a bunch of civilians, so the Syrian government was forced to publicly denounce the raid. Sounds like the kind of thing our own politicians would do so that they don't look bad to their constituancy. And as the article discusses (and as I said earlier in this thread), the Syrian government is enemies with Al-Queda, and Al-Queda has been behind terrorist attacks in Syria targeting their government.

Well if that is true kinda shoots a hole in the whole "we need to apologize" argument

Not really. Our appology should not be to the Syrian government, but to the families of the civilians who were killed. Any time innocent civilians are killed, there needs to be an appology. Otherwise the appearance is that they were targeted, or that we simply don't care. Even with an appology many will think that. But some may be on the fence about it, and an appology will help. I don't have to tell you that public opinion of our military in that part of the world is crap. We need to do whatever we can to help repair that, even if it takes many years.

Again, we disagree.

Do you know everyone who lives in your neighborhood? If you are like most people, I would guess probably not.

So imagine now that the US government gave another country permission to bomb your neighborhood to kill a terrorist who had committed crimes against that country, and in the bombing some of your family members were killed. Let's suppose the country that did this was not one who was incredibly popular in our society to begin with, like for example Cuba or Venezuela, or Iran. And let's suppose there was a revolutionary group that carried out attacks against this country's military. Following the loss of your wife, or kid, or whoever was killed, would you do nothing, or would you go join that group to get revenge? I'd say that a good percentage of people, given those circumstances, would go join the group. And that is exactly what is happening in the Middle East every time we kill civilians. We kill one terrorist, kill 5 civilians in the process, and 10 more people go join the terorrist group. It is counter-productive. It's like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.
