Two points:

1) how many of you knew someone in high school or college that used a fake ID to get into a bar or to buy alcohol? Currently there are about a dozen states where that is all that is required to purchase a gun.

2) The reason the gun manufacturers and their organization are against such regulations is that they know it will cause a reduction in gun sales, meaning the regulations will indeed have an effect. Otherwise, they would not care.

The drug smuggling started to get violent when we decided to make every american show ID and sign for cold medication. In order for a regular citizen to get Sudafed you have to show ID and sign a log book. That pushed the speed manufacturing to Mexico and now we are seeing 6000+ people a year die in Mexican boarder towns. These are deaths by very brutal means and have completely overrun local law enforcement.

Another example of regulating law abiding citizens that has made criminals stronger.

Don't know where you live, but here in NY they sell sudafed in the supermarket. No ID, no log book. You throw it in your shopping cart, and pay for it at the cash register.

Wrong, if your buying Sudafed it's going to be the useless PE version.

Effective April 8, 2006

a. The change to 21 U.S.C. § 830 that adds a new subsection (d) SCHEDULED LISTED CHEMICALS; RESTRICTIONS ON SALES QUANTITY; REQUIREMENTS REGARDING NONLIQUID FORMS:

ii. Affects regulated sellers and persons required to submit mail order reports under 21 U.S.C. 830(b)(3).

iii. Requires all nonliquid forms (including gel caps) to be in 2-unit blister packs (with exception when blister pack is not technically feasible, the product may be in unit dosage packets or pouches).

b. The change to 21 U.S.C. § 830 that adds (2) MAIL-ORDER REPORTING; VERIFICATION OF IDENTITY OF PURCHASER; 30-DAY RESTRICTION ON QUANTITIES FOR INDIVIDUAL PURCHASES:

i. This requires the mail-order seller to confirm the identity of the purchaser prior to shipping the product.

ii. Limits such sales to 7.5 grams per customer during a 30-day period.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
So I guess now would be the time for me to get my concealed licence and buy the new pistol I want? Before the madness ensues? Now I just need to decide which full sized 9mm pistol I want for a range gun, currently thinking about springfield XD and beretta 92fs... experience driven suggestions welcomed!

What is wrong with having to jump through an extra one or two hoops to get a gun? Will it stop criminals? obviously not...but I would sure like to see what effect it will have on gun deaths...

Glocks are the most reliable -- but you could always go with HK...I'm partial to the .40 caliber -- stopping power is a lot better that the 9mm.

Care to explain why the robbery rates in our country are much higher than those in countries in Europe where handguns are more difficult to come by?
