JCL did you get the new Cervelo ?

The 2011 is using new improved bottom bracket.

No, not the right time for me to spend money, as I am changing jobs. I have been following the Cervelo 2011 model release. I think the tapered head tube is as important as the bottom bracket, and I like the asymetric chain stays. Overall, I like the new R3, but there are limited options for the bottom bracket (which is Cervelo-specific) until the component suppliers get the parts into their distribution systems.

I fixed up my Trek, and will make it to 3000 km this summer in the next week or so. Then I will put a new cassette, chainrings, and a chain on it, with new BB bearing cups, and just ride it when the whether is nice for the coming months.

We had the bikes up in the Okanagan wine country a week ago, and on a group ride this past weekend. We hope to get some good fall rides before the rain socks us in.

I just had to convert it, lol. Yeah, 1875 miles, after one more ride. April was spent in Italy, so that was from May through the first week of September. All of it was riding together with my wife, some group rides but usually just the two of us. Best week was 370 km (231 miles).

I checked, and it totals 8500 km (5312 miles) in the last three years, since our big crash, and six months of that time was spent in physio and recovery.

How many miles are you putting on the R3SL?

HOLD UP!!!! We have another R3SL on the board???!!!! I have been putting down at least 100 miles since the weather is starting to cool down in Phoenix,AZ!! I am loving my bike, Di2, and all!! An update on my tubeless wheels. It is time to put more sealant in them. They are loosing pressure overnight. I am going to use stans sealant. Thats what I use on my mtb. It seems that the hutchinson sealant I originally used lasted about 4-5 months. It seems like that is the interval I am refilling my mtb tires at as well.

I purchased a 2008 Cervelo R3SL last May, thanks to help from JCL.

It now has 2,800 miles on it. I put about a 1,000 miles on it last year and this I rode seriously from April through late June. With the summer heat I did not ride much. I plan do more cycling this fall.

I did a number of mods to the bike:

1) Dura Ace 7900 compact crank, cassette and chain
2) Gore Shifter Cables (The original shifter cable was had a on-going tension problem)
3) 4 Vittoria Corsa EVO tires. They where out fast and might switch to Conti
4) Garmin 705 GPS
5) Numerous pairs of bike clothing (I have found that Performance short bibs are a great deal)

The most important mod is that I am in better shape and have lost over 20 pounds.

Sounds Great!!! and congrats on loosing over 20 pounds! I run tubeless now but on my other non tubeless wheelset I run Conti GP 4000 S. They are good tires. I run Hutchinson Intensives on my tubeless.

I have a 2010 R3SL. You probably saw the pics of it on this thread. I am so excited about the 2011 cervelo line-up.

Have you ever looked at bonktown.com for bibs, jerseys etc... They have nice stuff heavily discounted. The thing is they advertise a product for 30 min. in that time you can buy it. when the 30 min is up they move on to a new product. I just check it through out the day.

Hey, what chain lubes do you guys use? I have been using Prolink by Progold for a long time and am going to switch to Dumonde for my road bike when I replace my chain. I have been satisfied with Prolink and it works well on my mtb. It is very dusty on our trails in AZ and I find that the Prolink does not gunk up or attract to much dust. My dad has started to run dumonde on his road bike and it is less oily and the chain runs very quiet. This will be on my road bike, not mtb.

I am curious what chain lubes you guys are using?

I use chain oil (designed for chain saw bars) mixed 1:3 or so with 30 weight, in a squeeze bottle with a small tip, so that I can apply it precisely. Not sure what brand, but a quart lasts three years or so. The chain bar oil has a stringy property so that it doesn't fly off. Spend three times as much time wiping it off with a rag as you do applying it, then there is very little there to attract dirt. I wipe the chain after every 150 km or so, relube, and wipe it again.

I got 5000 km on my Ultegra chain, and 4500 km on my tandem chain, despite the double load, with this method. We just replaced my wife's Dura Ace chain at 2500 km, which was early, but that was because of the cost of the replacement chain rings (which we want to avoid needing).
