Advice, Please!!

So... I can get this Vespa - brand new for $1K. It retails for about $3,200. I have always loved the Vespa, but my wife thinks I'd look goofy and that they are for kids and people who lose their driver's license. (And, yes, she knows that just about every other European and every Roman has one.)

What do you guys think? I could not use to go back and forth to work -- that requires highway driving, and I would not do that on a Vespa. It'd be basically a toy to drive around to do errands or just to putz around for fun...

In case you're wondering: A friend of mine was offered that deal from AMEX (some kind of rewards program), and he's offered to sell it to me.

So... should I pull the trigger?

Juan

Skip the Vespa and get the Range Rover that they are offering later this week for only $5000. The catch is there are only 3 available, but what a deal

Are you sure he got it? I got the same Amex wishlist email, been trying to get the 37" Panasonic plasma all day, no luck (they had 50 to sell for $700). The Vespa sale is Thursday, MSRP is $3,199, selling for $900 and they have 30 of them. I think your boy is trying to make a quick c-note off you!

I missed out on $750.00 Plazma's today. Would have looked good in the bedroom.

No, he's not gotten it yet. He'll order it, and then sell it to me when he gets it. If I understand correctly, they'll have 30 three times on that day? at 12 Noon, 3PM and 7PM? He's a good, honest friend. He knows I've had a love affair with Vespas and IMed me to tell me about that offer. He has no interest in it.

I friggin clicked "I Want It" for that plasma all three times today, and I have a FAST broadband connection at home and a T1 at work, no dice. Chances are slim to none he can get it in the first place. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but realistically, it's unlikely he'll click that beyatch fast enough.
