Could be a wheel speed sensor not reading (although I would expect also to see an ABS fault light). You'll need to read the fault code as upallnight points out...

So long as the spare is no more than 255 width (as front wheels) it should fit ok in the trunk regardless of rim diameter. The rear wheels width will not allow the trunk floor to close.
