Get the upgraded seats; the standard seats are horrid. The standard Hi-fi system should be sufficient if you're on a tighter budget and generally it's not that high on my priorities list for options.

I don't know of a way to do this with the E53 or the older BMWs like my X3, unfortunately. I would just use the energy control gauge underneath the tachometer since that's pretty accurate.
