I was having pairing issues for my bluettoth module as well. I discoverd that the pairing button in the center arm rest had stopped working altogether after being intermittent for awhile.

Opening up the center armrest to remove the pairing button I noticed the wiring harness under the console along the passenger side hinge was frayed. The motion of opening and closing the center console lid wears on the wiring. I spliced the worn through wires and had a connection immediately. Check that out to see if that is your issue.

Unless the original BT TCU was removed and replaced with another model...the BT TCUs that came standard on the e53 with a 10/04 build date up...doesn't have a pairing button inside the console. It automatically goes into pairing mode for the 1st 2 minutes that the ignition is turned to position 1 or 2.

During those first minutes...open your cell/smartphone to look for available BT devices. You should see your BMW...it will be displayed as "BMW xxxxx"...the Xs will be the last 5 digits of your X5s VIN. You select your X5 and then your asked to enter the passkey code...etc.

Negative and we reset the module with the local BMW dealer shop software..again nothing showed up, no name, no pass key, nothing it seems the module is dead....

Maybe try to upload a .bin file and see if this will fix your issue.

If you can ask someone close to you.... to copy/share their BT module .bin file.

You local BMW dealership should have this.

How would I upload it?

My reply in post #32 was specific to the forum member that was quoted...and it was just clarification as to the difference between the prefacelift models that could install the upgraded BT modules...especially those that had the old BMW phones installed...vs the newer BT TCU model that was installed from 10/04 up...and their normal pairing instructions.

It was to note that the newer facelift X5s won't have a pairing button in the console...especially if they don't have an installed phone in the console.

My reply wasn't about the problem you're having with trying to pair your X5 with your mobile phone. :)

When you get this issue worked out...do post back the resolution and what possibly happened.

I have exactly the same problem mate I was told I would have to get BMW to reactivity the module as previous owner had BMW assist and only they can re activate the module I contacted them and they didn't want to no but as I said I have exactly the same problems

There is no activating the module. I had a master tech hook it up. It needs to be replaced.

BMW X5 E53 wont connect to Iphone 6S via Bluetooth - FIX.

My first ever post. This worked for me and my wife’s brand new Iphone 6S may help with other cars or phones, just wanted to share it (I am going by memory as I never thought to write it down)

Problem: BMW X5 E53 wont connect to Iphone 6S via Bluetooth.
Fix:
1. Take the SIM card out of the phone (just pop it out, you will need to put it back in later)
2. Turn your ignition key to the fully off position
3. Hold down the speak button in the center console.
4. Still holding down the speak button in the console turn the key to position 1 keep holding the speak button FOR 3 SECONDS.
5. Bluetooth in the X5 is now in the "Pairing Mode". (you may need to put your BMW Pin code into your phone)
6. Now pair your phone as per maker's instructions.
7. Turn key to off position.
8. Insert the SIM card into the phone (wait for it to recognise the SIM and gain reception)
9. Turn the ignition switch back to position 1 (the first click)
10. Press the phone call button.
11. You may have to wait for all the contacts to appear, when they do find a contact and call them.
12. Your Phone is now synced with your BMW.

If someone could post this in an appropriate place would be appreciated.

Background : I bought New Iphone 6S and went to sync them up with My 2006 X5 using the original phone system but the X5 didn’t not see the phone and the phone did not see the X5. I knew the system was working the day before with my old phone so tried every trick I could find on forums for several hours. I then went to uninstall my Old phone from the X5 memory and found that they would connect fine without a SIM card (just couldn’t make a call) so thought “hey, why not try the new phone without the SIM…got nothing to lose” and lo and behold the Iphone6S and BMW immediately started connecting.

Thought I would share the fix that worked on 2 phones that the X5 couldn’t pair with, not being technical I assume the SIM has somehow over ridden the blue tooth connectivity, have some friends trying it out with other cars as well.

Great Forum, I joined as I wanted to share as I have learnt so much and love my X5.

I have a 2007 X3 that recently the bluetooth stopped working. When trying to Pair the BMW device doesn't even come up on my phone. I pulled the unit from the car and opened it. I have some circuit board level ability. The unit obviously took on some water at some point and is non functional and I don't think I can fix it. Funny, the unit is actually manufactured in 2009, so this unit has already been replaced once. It is a BMW TCU1.5 IBUS US.
I have found numerous potential replacements on ebay but I'm not sure what is compatible. I am only interested in getting the bluetooth portion of whatever this does back functioning. My unit is this:

I'm not sure what will work in it's place. If I understand correctly a MOST unit will not work, it must be IBUS? There lost of units that are described as Ibus TCU but show on their label BMW TCU1.5 MOST US. I have also found units that say BMW Everest IBUS US. Will that work? Some just say BMW Everest E60US.

Does GSM matter if I'm only looking to get Bluetooth connectivity?

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
