People have gone to Bimmerfest and there was someone who was programming options like Key Programming and turning the European option back on to roll the windows up via the remote. Can this do that?

There is a guy on my motorcycle forums who is allowing people to send him their ECU's for engine tuning software for free of charge, we just have to pay for return shipping. Would this be possible to have certain options turned on/back on, and if so, is it possible that people could send you their ECU's to get programmed?

The ECU's need to be installed in the vehicle to be programmed, so no remote service with the GT1 setup unfortunately...

And the Euro option for rolling up the windows is not in the US release software... we don't have the option to turn it on. But maybe with Euro software?

There is something wrong with the program, you may have to re-install the SSS program. I have never encountered this problem with my SSS program.

Ebay GT1 not working consistently

Hello all, thanks for such a great thread. I bought a system off ebay to scan my BMWs. The setup I bought includes a thinkpad T40 with DIS v56 and SSS v32 preinstalled running off vmware workstation and a yellow DK head along with all the cables. When I first received it, I tested it on my E39 540i and I seemed to work fine the first couple times. Then just like someone else on this thread, the system would never work consistently. I've tried on many different cars, and I just can't get a connection to the head when I need to diagnose. When I run dis on vmware, it shows no connection to the head. When I go into the admin area, and choose connection setup, is shows no free heads. I also noticed that the network connectivity icon in the system tray would show little or no connectivity whenever there is no connection to the head. When it doesn't work, the green light on the head would be lit, but the orange light will blink. Can someone please tell me how to consistently establish connection with the head so I can scan my cars? I initially thought it was a bad head, but now I think it's more a software or configuration issue. I did not try hooking up my yellow head to someone else's computer, so I cannot rule out a bad head. I can take screenshots if needed, but I would like some help getting this to work. Usually, if I power off vmware and restart the program and play around enough, it will eventually establish connection with the head and everything will work fine, but I really don't want to spend 2-3 hours tinkering everytime I need to scan a car. Any suggestions on what I need to do? Thanks in advance

You have to wait for the engine cooling down, and then connect DIS software. No such requirement on SSS.

Wait for vehicle cool down to connect DIS??? Never heard of it... But have heard the VMware run DIS software are really fickle and troublesome. That is why the better working laptop GT1 setups simple have separate hard drives vs seperate virtual machines.

Yes, I have tried several times and it is very hard to connect when the engine is hot, but very easy to connect when the engine cools down. But when I am using SSS, it can be connected all the time without problem. So I guess, waiting for the engine cooling down first and then connect DIS software. I am using DIS and SSS under VMware.

I just tried connecting to a car this morning even before starting it and it still doesn't connect, so I don't think it a engine cool down problem. When DIS does not work, SSS will not work either. I'm ready to buy a system that has a native install and does not run off vmware. Does anyone know what else I can try? Any links to installing dis and sss on a dedicated laptop and not use vmware? Thanks
