My dudes. What is that box on the right side. I see it in pics of euro X5s a lot, but I don't have it on mine, nor have I ever seen it on a us model.

The Webasto Thermotop aux. HEATER is an actual fuel-fired (diesel in my case) heater, that heats the engine coolant, to bring the engine up to temp quickly in cold weather. In conjunction with the aux. water pump, it can also be activated when the car is not running (by remote control) to heat the cabin (via engine coolant and the heater core) - great on a frosty morning! *edit* If anyone is interested, I'll post a video of it's operation. :D |

Sounds like the same thing that some E53, 39, 38s have that can warm the cabin using the aux timer setup that's on the radio. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is NOT that - it's entirely different. It heats the coolant directly. ;) |

Since they run on diesel makes sense you can't find in the USA. I've been working on some way to pre heat our X5 especially when it's -20C. There was a block heater you could buy in Canada for m54 but most promising is a heater that taps into the heater core loop. I believe you can configure the webasto with a standalone diesel tank to work on gas powered car. |
