Got my 4.4 in today getting the alternator oil leak done along with a trans refresh (solenoids/seals etc). Hope to be rid of some EPIC trans slam...
I've also just noted a coolant leak in both cars. The 4.8 appears to have it at the bottom of the radiator, and the 4.4 we are trying to find (had low coolant but a pressure test hasn't revealed any leaks yet).. The 4.8 is off the road while I fix the air suspension so the leak will get attended to at the same time. So.. I was on a FB page where a guy was opining about only using the BLUE coolant, and I have GREEN coolant in both cars... did a search on the forum here and some old posts say it makes no difference, others say only BLUE.... Leaks in both cars mean either it does make a difference or they are both going out in sympathy with each other.... Any thoughts anyone? |
On older BMW's I've used green, but on 2000+ model years I use only blue. No logical reason for this though, just the way it worked out. The blue stuff is not much more expensive, just usually more inconvenient to get.

After the quad tip exhaust tips I needed the correct trim around the openings.
BMW calls them heat shields. They came in today and on the X is less than 5 minutes. It's the little things... |

I've been using green in mine and only noticed recently that wife's has the blue. Now that "BMW friendly" coolant is carried in local stores I'll probably switch to that when I do a flush. |

Not sure if you mentioned it or not, were these the 3" or 3.5" tips? |

Sweet, those are the ones I have already. Wasn't sure if they were going to fit.

Replaced the PS pump...AGAIN
Original had 118k miles, it was making a dry bearing noise at full lock, it was loud and embarrassing to say the least at parking lots, a real head turner lol. Bought a used one on ebay w/ 85k, still making noise, albeit a little less but now it would moan/groan just turning the wheel. Tried lubrizol and shit ton of bleeding thinking there was air in the system. Lubrizol helped a bit, but not enough. Couldn't take the noise anymore so bought a reman Bosch unit and no more noise. Glad the N62 PS is a 30 min job. Oh, also replaced the leaking Oil Pressure switch. |
