I had a pre LCI E53 but post LCI tail lights
When I discovered two lamps were dual filament and no connection to the 21w "brake" filament, I rewired them so both brake filaments lit on both sides effectively always force braking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

The plastic clips that go thru the hole in the glass are still intact, but I think I'll replace them anyway as long as I've got the door panel off (still) as I've got a pair in my toolbox. The assorted door panel fasteners, well not so much... but enough are intact to put it back on tomorrow. Why is every hex bolt so far on this thing 8mm... I have ONE 8mm socket, ¼" drive. I need a 3/8" and a deep one. Hey at least the AC is dealing well with this stupefying heat/humidity. |
Silicone lube on the felt guides will reduce stress on the parts 50%.

Welp, went to put the door panel back on and the door latch cable popped out of the hook on the door lock actuator. Fun fun! The plastic clip that the cable snaps into that I didn’t know existed had fallen into the door next to a needle-sharp thing I couldn’t see that stabbed me about 27 times. Ugh. Got it back together and now the lock doesn’t work. oh well at least I can open the door now and I wrapped a loop of gorilla tape around the cable end so it doesn’t pop out again.

Lock button won't go down? Usually something blocking the rod like wire to the air bag or vapor barrier

I would avoid silicone with rubber seals. Preferably fluor based glide like Carbaflo KSP 105 or newer Krytox.

The incredible complexity of the door locking system just makes its total unreliability that much more unforgivable |

They must have learned their lesson the e70 lost features of e53. Sadly that makes e70 ∞ more susceptible to smash and grab. I have most of my items that wont fit through a window and you can't open e53 door from inside when alarm is set. As far as I can tell e70 doesn't have the double lock system. It's possible It does and just outsmarted me by not disabling the inner door handles if a person is on the ass detector. My door latches failed ≈ 140,000 miles after 16 yr or so. That's really not "total unreliable". They do have a design flaw in two places: 1) the self cleaning hinges on the DHC has a weak spot that will fatigue fail eventually. 2) the DLA has two metal parts that touch each other and capillary action will suck 1/20 of a ml of water between them and freeze them together. If you don't realize the handle is frozen and try to tug, refer to 1). |
