Well the other option is to scrap an otherwise perfect X? So then I lose completely and have to start all over again and find another set of wheels..and basically just hand over the $ that I paid for it.

So i spend 6K and have a champ to drive! I admit I thought of a lot of ways to get out of the situation, none of them made sense, so it had to be repaired.

Yes it definitely drives like it once did!

flush brakes, flush cooling, belts, intake hose, pwr steering service and hoses.

rear upper arms, oil filter seal and fuel system flush, and I'm finally done, aka caught up, lol.

Time to do the X5Girl suspension thing.. after winter-hibernation..
THEN, I finally get m' speakers!

Timing chain guides, all seals, all gaskets, control arms, suspension bushings, CV boots, alignments, oil change, coolant, water pump, thermostat, plugs...and a whole host of other little items replaced while it was apart.
Followed same day by the installation of (4) 255/55R18 Michelin X-Ice XI2 & (4) Touren TR3 18" rims. Just in time for a foot of snow

I feel your pain Bro 4. I installed 4 new tires $400+. I had to replace all of the electronics as a result of a leak that flooded the spare tire compartment.. At the same time they did all the bushings and suspension, replaced all the belts. total bill was $6000+-.

Is it worth it? to me it is. I'm driving a $60000 car for $6000 bucks. 2002 141,000 miles. Maintained by me and I know what I have. I'm happy and the car runs like brand new. I intend to get another 10 years out of it. Drove it 600 miles yesterday and it puts a smile on my face every time I hit the gas. For an SUV it's one heck of car.

Changed the oil and filter last week

Put some Rotella t6 5w-40. It rated for mercedes so how bad can it be. much quieter. I do 7000 oci so it can't hurt.

Worked on the headlights a little more. Took them apart and tinted black all the chrome -- it looks blacked out but the tint spray is transparent so the reflective chrome still will shine through when hit with light.

I replaced another window regulator/lifter. Number 7 if I'm not mistaken. This time the cable got chewed up in the motor mechanism. The motor was not damaged as far as I can tell. The malfunction was caused because two clips broke. I don't think my window regulator would have broken if these clips held up.
