What am I looking at here?

Please pardon my ignorance and I just gotta ask a few ?'s:

What is a DISA?
What am I looking at in this pic > The grey colored plate and assy.
What is the year of your X5 & do you have the 4.4i?

Thanks,

How did the filter housing gasket go?

Last week the X was idling rough, real rough. I heard a loud hissing sound from the back left side of engine bay. I thought one of the vacuum/air lines had come loose or torn. The next day the SES light came on. I used my handy dandy Torque App on my Android and bluetooth adapter and got the P0171 and 74 codes. Today I finally got time to check it out. Found out the DISA was broken to hell inside. Ordered it from NE dealer online for $173. Least expensive place I found it. Will replace on Tuesday when it arrives.

Look like the DISA valve missing the metal pin too. Make sure it doesnt fall into the engine as the damage would be substantial.

I handed the keys to my dad so he can drive the X5 for the rest of the week while I drive his E46. His car has been in another accident and I feel that a broken E46 suits me better than a E53 -- the only thing I miss is not having a V1 with me even when I'm not speeding.

Got my new DISA unit today. Wife got home a little bit ago and less than 5 minutes later, new DISA installed. I checked the fault codes stored and wow! every cylinder was miss firing, too lean on both banks, and some others (8 or 9 total I think). Reset codes using Torque and BT adapter, started the car, re-checked for codes and clean :-) Engine now running smooth as silk again.
Now for that damn oil filter housing gasket...

Adjusted rear wiper
Installed missing door card clips
Removed trash from drive to LA from SF

Installed rear cargo net.

Installed black front roundel. Don't ask, still waiting for others.

Installed fuse puller. Yea bought car with it missing. So ordered a new one.

Installed brand new floor mats.

Installed new engine air filter. Was too aggressive with the airbox clips, and dropped one all the way to the chasis cover. Yay, get to go look for that today.

Installed seatbelt buckle retaining nut thing. Yea that was missing as well. Buckle would fall all the way to the floor.

I will try to do spark plugs today or tomorrow.

used it as an SUV rather than an SAV - turns out this Bimmer can haul more than just ass

thank you to Mike Vanderjagt, former placekicker for the formerly great Indianapolis Colts and original owner of my X, for equipping it with an OEM hitch
