I think the new ones have a coating on the metal wire portion that prevents the seizing. I have a new carrier for the passenger front. Not going to do it until the current one actually dies. Just means the wife will have to crawl over the console if we go out together, but heck, the kids crawl all over the thing, so why not :).

Bought a new intake boot. Duct tape on the old one until I can gitterdone.

That is interesting. I didn't pay super close attention to the spring. But the entire thing was heavily lubricated. I expected beefier metal around the usual braking point.

Were you missing the gasket material that lines the edges of the AFE airbox?

Now's a good time to degrease and dress/protect that engine :)

Well there was enough clearance to close the hood with the trim on so I just did without it. Indeed that's one project during the summer.

I ~think~ the point of the gasket is to attempt to create some sort of seal to prevent hot air traveling up and over the heat shield, not to protect the hood from rubbing on the heat shield.

Without that seal it's a hot air intake.

:iagree: The factory intake pulls in colder air if you don't have it sealed well.

Ordered some 30MM spacers for rear today. They should be here by monday. Now the question is will my wife notice? It is her car...

Top off engine oil - 2 quarts

mrcarter20 05-06-2015 12:50 AM

Well it's not gonna do the X any justice with the hood propped open. It won't close with the gasket on.
