I love BMW's, this X5 M is no DD and is no sports car. I drive X5's as DD and my M3 & AMG are my sports cars. Yes I think BMW needed to make a statement but other than the States I don't think its will be a big seller anywhere else. The dealers here don't even want to carry the normal V8 X5 and fuel in a lot of countries is just too expensive now and further V8's here have poor resale value.

It's not worth it for me to have it sitting in the garage until the weekend comes and I don't think a wife will drive one to carry the kids around in!

I would love one but there are a lot of cars I would love before this but go BMW!

PS. They cannot give the X6's away here, know one wants them!

Perhaps not in the land down under, but let's not forget the U.S. is BMW's largest market by far!

And lets not forget we're in a financial meltdown and middle of a depression. Don't think BMWs are still flying off the lot, even in SoCal.

They are not flying but at least BMW is doing better than competition.

I Disagree.

I know many people in the middle east who have newer models 4.8 and are waiting for this to upgrade (like me). I am pretty sure people in Europe will be buying it to. I think it will sell as much as the current 4.8. IMO!

BTW, certain cars are set to fail due to the economic climate. No matter how good looking or how great performing they are. Remeber the 840 and 850's of the early 90s? Those cars failed miserably b/c they were launched right at the start of the 1991 recession. Nice. The X6M is 2009's 850CSi. Its not going to sell. Its pretty ugly too btw. Not sure what BMW was thinking on that body style. Not too pretty IMO.

If this were true, regardless of how you personally feel about it's looks etc...then the X6 wouldn't have been such a success. BMW already met and exceeded their annual bottom line with the X6. There is intense market analysis and due diligence (as in any business-case), at concept stage. They obviously took the economic climate into consideration.

///M is a premium brand, their target demo are either slightly or not affected by the economic downturn. There are tenfold more affluent, now, than before and during the late 80's & 90's recession. Both X ///M's WILL sell to their niche market. Consider that a consumer in the market for a Pepper Turbo S (~$130K USD), now has an option of an X6 or X5 with better performance and a better price.

I respect your opinion, but I know of several people who are interested in dumping their ML63's and Pepper Turbo's for a TT X5 & X6 ///M. Their status differ, from single or married with a child or no kids. They believe the X6 suits them...They are the demo, obviously not you. Personally, i'm more interested in the X5 ///M...i wasn't the biggest fan of the X6 but it grew on me...throw in 555hp TT, towing capability, and 0-60 in 4.5sec, and i'm a bigger fan of the X6 ///M.

StanF18...yes, the X6 ///M will debut at the NYAIS. A publicist-friend with press credentials confirmed that it's already there, on first floor at Javits. Preview for press tonight. I believe the X5 ///M will be revealed at Shanghai Auto Show (April 20-28th).
