I heard that BMW is now going to immediately void warranties if you mod a turbo engine. That's the only way they can protect the Ms over a regular 4.4 TT?
Doesn't BMW void all cars warranties when you mod them ?

Manufacturers can't void warranties. What they can rightly do is refuse to cover problems caused by your modifications.

I wish someone told me this before I learned the hard way when I plugged in a Mercedes flashlight and BMW would no longer cover my car for anything.

They passed a law that prevents BMW from doing this. Even though they wish they could void your warranty for driving it off the lot.

My dealer tells me anything from a power inverter, subwoofers, exhaust TIPS, body parts (grill), or anything non-BMW will void my warranty. I tried arguing with them many times, but they stick with what they said.

Were they serious?

Whats next? Will the dealer tell you where you can and cannot get fuel?

Find a new dealer...

or

Do as you please and if they say anything about it, call the BBB, call BMWNA, stir up a lot of trouble. If they get a phone call from BMWNA saying they've got a complaint against them from a customer who says they will not honor their warranty because they changed out their kidney grills they will really look like idiots. That may be the best revenge...

That law prevents ANY dealer from doing that. They MUST prove beyond doubt that whatever you've done has caused whatever your problem is...

For example, deflating your tires and re-inflating them with nitrogen would not cause a bad alternator. An improperly installed or shorting-out amplifier, however, might contribute to that problem. A properly installed amplifier, on the other hand, would not be able to be held accountable.

Stand up for yourself, don't let them try to push you around. Even my dealer has tried, when my personal SA was not available, I laughed and always refused whatever they were trying to shove down my throat. Like a $150 fuel system treatment, new tires, "worn out" lower control arms, etc, etc, ect. A friend of a friend who is a tech at that dealership told me the $150 fuel system treatment consists of them putting a can of a certain fuel cleaner in the gas tank. I had new tires in the garage that time they told me they "have to" install new front tires. I'll swap those lower control arms myself...

I've never had any issues with "mods" though mine are mostly cosmetic with any vehicle under MFG warranty I've owned...
