Come to think of it.. I don't know if I've ever driven any variation of a V8 Turbo charged engine.. Let alone a Bi-Turbo..

I'm thinking about ordering the X5M. I was wondering how the typical negotiation/ordering process works. I can spec out the options asap. Do I negotiate price at that time? Or wait until the car arrives? Thanks.

I negotiate before I give any deposit and before ordering. After spec'ing out all options, I ask for discount. Only after agreeing on price do I give deposit.
Not sure how much they will discount on the X5 M since its a new car.

Not even a Pontiac Trans Am with a turbo V8? They were ubiquitous, and rather gutless, but you could choose from the Smokey and the Bandit version or the screaming chicken decal version.

I thought you might have driven a turbo Cayenne or Mercedes in recent years.

at my dealer you needed to put a 1k down just to get on a list for it. like i
said they wont be ordering any x5ms that havent been requested by a
customer (with a 1k down). it's a 100% new M car so the only deal you might get( i assume ) is a free keychain or a pat on the back..

also you can pick your options right now but they dont have an official prices yet. the base price for a x5 m is around 86k ish.

A very wise scientist once proved that everything is "relative".
I believe his name started with an E and ended with an N....
Anyway, the point is: $86 K is not 'cheap', but it's an absolute bargain compared to the Cayenne Turbo S ($124k), or even the plain old Cayenne Turbo ($98k). Both of which are now SLOWER and cannot claim the title of "fastest production SUV".

Hmmmm....I wonder if this line of reasoning will get a blessing from my wife....

Don't be so sure just yet..

When the new M3 came out for the first two weeks, they were getting premiums. Then they were sitting on dealers lots looking for buyers and I even heard MSRP thrown around..

And if the dealers are saying MSRP, that means you can negotiate them into a discount.

If they have cars in stock, they will deal. If they don't have cars in stock, then expect to pay sticker..

That's my guess anyway.

Not really....
The X5 M may have a lower base price at 86k, and the Cayenne Turbo S may be 124k, but they are both around $150k fully loaded which doesn't seem to impressive. I was expecting something around $110-115k for a loaded X5 M.
