I also have a 4.4i and it appears on mine from time to time before I had it checked w/ BMW....now it's gone.....they said there was nothing wrong with the self levelling thing..... For your peace of mind, if it appears more often, have it checked....

OK...I must say I have lost all faith in my local dealership.
I took my x to a local mom and pop shop and I was in for a big suprise.
After they pulled the codes, reset my system, my X5 really feels good.
There were codes about the suspension and brakes. I was shocked to know that the dealership let me drive away without mentioning the brake issue.
So I have made a new friend and they have made a new customer.

If you are ever in Metro Atlanta give Harrison Motorsport a call. They will treat you right and they love BMW's.

Does anybody know if Carsoft 6.5 can test Self-leveling system on 2002 2003 X5 4.4i ? Front is down ,seems like left corner has no air .Fuses look ok . No light on the "up/down" switch.

I got in my X last night at the gym parking lot and the "Selflevel Susp Inact" warning appeared on my dash - WTF!!! I just had my car at the shop getting my bumper repainted (clearcoat was chipping - covered under factory warranty) so I'm wondering if this is related since they would have removed the bumper, disconnecting the headlight/fog light units? Maybe they forgot to connetc something correctly???

I've made an appointment today at the dealer to get this checked out. I'll keep you all posted on what they come back with etc.

Well, I'm glad I took in my X to have it checked out. According to the service advisor, it was a faulty sensory unit ("Cause: Instrument Cluster Acoustic Generator has occasional failure per SIB Test Module - Changed Programming in EHC to change timing for PR"?). In layman's terms, they had to reprogram the "control units" - all covered under BMW factory warranty!!

Yesterday I did a coolant change. When I drained the block it was quite messy (especialy on the passanger side, lot of splashing). This morning I got a self-leveling inactive warning. Do you think it's possible the coolant splashing caused the warning?
