Post Your Extended Warranty/Maintenance Pricing

My BMW dealership in Los Angeles sells an extended warranty product from Zurich. Has anyone considered this product? I am now in the CPO portion of the warranty in my 2006 X5, and anticipate having around 55,000 miles when it comes to an end. I would like to keep this car for a couple of more years. So, an extended warranty is something I would consider purchasing.

Commuting from Los Angeles to Switzerland for warranty service might be a bit far. I mean I do like to drive and everything, but we're talking about something like 300 gallons of gas just to get there.

What did you eventually decide on? I don't know the dealer cost of the extended warranties, but the GOLD 84 month/100,000 you were quoted for $4430 seemed pretty good as the MSRP on it was $5070.

How does the billing work? Does Rallye bill Fidelity directly or do you pay the Rallye bill and get reimbursed from Fidelity?

BTW, I don't know what the hell they replaced for $624. The right mirror motor repair kit is 67-13-8-381-998 and retails for $197.60 and there is no way that is a 3 hour job, but even if it was it seems like it cost at least double of what it should have cost.

The catch is that it didnt fix my folding mirror problem - it just fixed my mirror motor so the mirror goes down when i reverse and doesn't get stuck anymore. Total $920.

I only paid $70 out of pocket because fidelity didn't cover the other 30 min diagnose time. 0 deductible because i went to Rallye where i bought it.

So next step with mirror folding issue is the other motor (drivers side) needs to get replaced because it comes to far in so it folds back out. Because the service will be over $1000 fidelity needs to send an "inspector" out. I didnt see that fine print. So that will be next week because I want my car for the weekend.

So as of right now i'm pleasantly surprised and extremely happy with my fidelity extended warranty. Again - always be mindful of the warranty you buy and don't complain about it if you didnt read the fine print. I purchased the platinum because it made sense with the low mileage i had.

Anyone know how these extended warranty companies make $? They couldnt have spent $850 on my behalf. Seems crazy considering I paid $2600 total for 5 yrs. Is it all in the science of probability and risk assessments?

Hey - they fixed the other side after the guy came out and looked at it. I also got a mazda 3 rental too..

i have air strut leak now i think where driver side gets low after parked for a while. i'm thinking i may just need calibration again for my air ride suspension or maybe even new strut. Doubting they will cover it as it isn't "broken" and might also be a wear and tear item. although i did ask this when i purchased it and they said it was covered. but it might be covered as broken, and not as "leaking" - it is going to suck to cover $130 diagnose dealer fee to have fidelity tell me no and dealer quote me $2gs LOL - then have to go buy the remanufactured ones at a fraction lol.

will try it out at dealer when i have the time. if they do pay for it - then fidelity platinum is the ultimate after market warranty. they would have surprised me twice.

Rallye bills fidelity directly and fidelity pays via their credit card or something. i agree - 3 hrs is crazy. also diagnose fee is crazy. but that is between bmw and fidelity. 1.5 hr diagnose fee? i could have told them what was wrong in 10 minutes. that's what i hate about dealer. regardless Fidelity even paid the diagnose fee but said they'd only pay a portion. so i came out of pocket $70 total for entire job. no deductible since i was at "home" dealer where i purchased warranty.

I don't understand why you are getting screwed for the diagnosis? Is that your responsibility every time? They can't repair what hasn't been diagnosed, so it seems like an integral part of any repair. Do they only allow for an hour of diagnosis or something?

From what I can tell regarding the Platinum coverage, the air suspension should be covered. A leak is not normal and so means it's broken. It will be interesting to hear the end result. Keep us updated.

BMW updated the Extended Maintenance Program information effective 3/2010 (from June 2009). The reason for this is to update the eligible models and pricing to include Model Year 2011 cars (now covering vehicles between 2004 and 2011). Note that the pricing has not increased from the July 1, 2009 update. (My guess is that the next pricing change (increase) will happen in June 2010 to take effect July 1, 2010. I don't 'trust' the posts on the warranty costs- MSRP and otherwise.

I've seen 'price sheets' at a dealership that had different MSRPs than have been floated here.

Back in the day these warranties were BIG money makers... I find it hard to believe that has changed drastically.
