Received my GT1 yesterday. I don't have T30 so I used VMWare. It was little frustrating.. I didn't read instructions posted here, but I was able to make it work.

I have pretty fast DELL Lattitude but this thing is slow.. It would be fine if you know exactly what you do but for my "wondering around" software it was very annoying. No positive confirmations that button pressed, etc.

I too had warning about 11V but I spent 1.5 hours with a car and it's all was good. I practiced on my 97' 540i with round connector.

Another problem is setting IP's for LAN connection. If you want to share laptop with other activities (like work) then it becomes PITA. I'm thinking about getting PCMCIA LAN card in addition to main one just for this purpose. But will see if SSS works first, because otherwise I will need T30

katit,

They do have DIS v55 and SSS v28 (not v32) on HDD available. I imagine it would have to be on 2 HDD unless its some kind of dual boot thing - but not sure. I hope I didn't just mess you up with that info.

Well. I'm not surprised nor I'm upset. It's just software thing. There is already instructions around internet on how to build VMWare which is the same as how you go about installing software on HDD.

GT1 heads at this price point just got out, so we will see software "improvements" pretty soon. From what I understand it's all not that hard if you know linux a little. I don't, but I'm software developer, I can figure out how to install something

Afterall my cars 2003 and 1997, all I need is already there and anything will be fine with me. At some point we will get "ultimate" software package for our yellow heads.

I wonder what those other connectors on head? Is it for oscilloscope and multimiter? I wonder if those "live" ?

normally its provided on two drives, the dis base installer has a fit if your drive isnt 18.xxx gigs exactly, but it is possible to install both onto a larger single drive and dual boot using grub. but you would need to be comfortable with linux.

Yeah, the original GT1 and DK head had those and other additonal cables for oscilloscope and such. However I think on these knock-off DK heads they don't work or is not recognized by the system. I never asked them because I didn't have any need but I can verify it with them.

Sounds like you know your way around this stuff. Hopefully you stick around so we can pick your brain.

Jose, Steve - the SSS replacement DVD's are on its way to me.

Katit, did you try installing SSS?

The newer GT1 heads have the green LED at the back working, not sure about the RS232(serial port) or the other 2 connectors. Also not sure these were built to work wireless. But I'm guessing not enabled.

I found that v55 runs faster on my VAIO. I will check again when my v43 HDD gets here.

SCORE! Thank you!!!

Thanks guys for all your hard work. I hope to have some time to play with this soon.

Still on my plate is the VM Physical-to-Virtual conversion. I have what I need, just need to make sure I can keep things running on RunLevel2. Dual boot is ok, but running a VM w/o having to reboot is where it is at(for me) This would allow you to use any laptop and not need to get fancy with configuration. Power up the VM, do what you need, Power it off... done

I have SSS VMWare installed, I ran it once, it gave me #3 as per instructions, then I rebooted, it cycled through windows(!) startup twice and brought ProgMan up. It didn't work with head. And I didn't have time to play with it because I needed DIS mainly for now.
