i follow your chain of thought, that is what i thought as well... it is activ for US, meaning, they don't work... like in the fog lights with highbeams or the windows roll up/daon on ajar doors...

i did not find "trigger" for left, which i thought was odd, but i think it is burried in the programming under different abbreviation, like the FL_BIX was buried in BIX and BIXENON

for some reason i am struggling with programming my changes from a MAN file into the car - it totally ignores all the changes, the car is back to factory defaults (which is good to know that the car somehow knows the defaults)... it might have something to do with the XP PRO vs VISTA, or it might be that my NCS directories are screwed up...

oh, and foound the line for the vertical wiper blades' parking:

ABKLAPPSTELLUNG - wiper arm parked position changes from horizontal to vertical when active - nicht_activ (default)

not sure what we can do with it...

hmmmm well if you are able to get the NCS fixed to test a change I would try the "US option" first to nicht aktiv, see if that changes anything.

However, with pins 10 and 12 currently providing voltage for blinker operation to my rear fogs, I am still dumbfounded. Besides the Cold and warm monitoring, when you get a chance, post up all lines you find with "NSL" in the thread and lets brainstorm their translations against E46/E39 owners who have programmed the rear fogs. I found the thread from E46 although that guy didn't quite get it right, he actually had lines in his LCM coding to the effect of "PIN30_NSL" or something like that, curious to see what lines there are for NSL, should be less than 10 I would think.

Copy and paste and I'll check back later on T!

I would also make sure this option is set to "nicht aktiv" it is rear fog lights as parking light:

NSL_ALS_STANDLICHT :Foglights as parking light

I think the US Option is a good way to start, but again even if we get it coded correctly you are still theorizing that the trailer connector X609 does not receive voltage from the LCM, you would have to have AHM trailer module in place?

Obviously I would test these NCS values without the trailer module in place and see if changing a line or two in programming would change voltage at the X609 pins 10 and 12

Not sure on the X5 but I know on the VW Taureg this is useful when adding a bike rack to the rear as it attaches to the hatch itself.

NSL_AH_US_OPTION - rear fog lights (USA)
aktiv

seems that this option is for the rear fogs on the trailer (_AH_), which might explain the pin 3 on the trailer module activating with the fog light switch...

NSL_R_NICHT_ANSTEUERN - rear right fog light disabled
nicht_aktiv

this one could have been the one we are looking for, but there is only one for the right light, and the verbiage suggests the "activ" disables the light, while "nicht_activ" - enables... and i have "nicht_activ"... of course, to find out, i need to play with it - but for some reason the NCS would not program the car... i mught need to reload the NCS...

BINGO!!!

change the NSL_AH_US_OPTION - rear fog lights (USA) from aktiv to nicht_activ

I got 12V (12.34VDC) on pins 10 and 12...

nothing else was changed, the pin 3 still has 14.32 VDC...

i wasn't using the revtor profile in NCS, alll should be good now...

EDIT: it was getting late, and i did not pull the trailer module off to see if the pins 10 and 12 still had the voltage - i will do it once i have a chance...
Jay, at this point if you manage to change that line in programming, you should be all set for the rear fogs - do you have means to make the change?

That's great T! Nice job, I figured once we looked at all the lines available it would be much simpler to figure out.

I also realized what that option is for "disabling right side", I know on older VW's they use a single rear fog light on the left side, so in theory making that option "aktiv" will give you one side rear fog light.

The bigger question will be whether pins 10 and 12 have voltage with the trailer module removed (I'm fairly certain that they won't have voltage with the module out however as that would be just my luck, and I cut pins 10 and 12 out of the trailer module harness X609!)

However in theory there must be some voltage in that harness because why else would my rear fogs currently work as blinkers, no trailer module in place!

And T sorry to say I don't have access to coding right now, there was a local guy I paid for my other options a few months back he was about 40 mins from my house, coded off cold monitoring for LED tails, fog lights on with high beams, euro double blink hazards, etc, but we hadn't figured out the rear fogs yet.

I'm sure I can find someone local to code one option for me for hopefully not too much $$$, I'd go see Slick in Brooklyn but that would take up half a day going over at rush hour.

I'll wait to see you test without the module in place then if all goes well I'll go and get it coded! Nice work again T we couldn't have done it without you!
