Wow man, that sucks! This CAN be done and my 2001 is proof of it. You may try calling another dealership in your general area if you can and see if you have better luck.

The job was done at Laurel BMW in Westmont IL. If you PM me your fax number, I can fax you a copy of my work order/receipt tomorrow or Wednesday.

I found that persistence pays off for this one. Good luck!

Has anyone successfully recoded a 05 or 06 X5? I don't really buy it, but i've been told the year makes a difference in the feasibility of the recoding.

Hi there,

I wonder if someone can please help me.

I have a 2001 4.4i X5 with mulitple air suspension faults. I have decided to remove the whoile system and convert to standard coil springs and shock absorbers like RPH740. I have purchsed replacement shocks and springs (O.E) and have ordered the top and bottom spring pads from the dealer- I am a little confused as what this "adapter" is for holding the coil spring in - is this an O.E Item? or a modification? I cant seem to see one on REALOEM.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Ray

Hi SpaceGrayM,

That pic is of the front suspension mate, I need the rear setup?

basically, I have the top and bottom rubber cap and the spring and realoem shows a small "cover" that seems to sit beneath the top rubber cap for the spring.

is there anything else I need to install the springs once the air bag is out?

thanks in advance

Ray

I'm assuming you are reffering to item #9 in the diagram? Here's a photo of the rear trunk area were the strut comes up through the floor.
Hope this helps

Hi mate,

OK, I think we have our wires crossed LOL, The shock mounting is not the issue, its the coil spring itself..................if I remove the air bag, does the coil spring just sit its in place with the top and bottom rubber caps? I read in this thread that you need the top "adapter" - do you know what this adapter is?

many thanks

I believe the piece you are refferring to is part 15, which just holds the upper spring pad in place.
