were you leaking from the valve cover Dan?

I'm assuming at your miles you were probably due, also how bad of shape was your CCV in and your DISA valve? I pulled mine recently and replaced with a G.A.S. new silicone o-ring for 5 bucks, my DISA otherwise was tight and not loose when testing the vacuum actuator.

However, that DISA seal was flat as could be and I seem to have a smoother idle and slightly improved mileage/driveability since replacing.

Yeah my oil came out the VCG, my fiance's CCV locked her engine up on the other hand (same day). The funny thing is, mine already had a cold-climate kit on it...



Not reassuring at all that the new one won't help much more than a regular one. I'm sure it's my daily commute that's the problem, I live about 10-15 mins. away from work. Even though the gauge does get up to temperature it's not getting hot enough to burn out the condensation. The CCV failed when we were down in the low teens for a couple of days last week. As for the DISA, he said I was driving on borrowed time... this pin was hanging out of it (the pin that drops and bends valves) and the flapper didn't move at all.

I also threw the 12mm spacers on the rears today, but I'm gonna take em off because I was getting vibrations :-/ It's just the failing rear suspension pieces being felt more. Blah.

I've had my x5 since last Saturday and just couldn't take the stock sub. I would of much preferred ordering some components online and doing this differently but I've never had issue with Polk Audio and heard decent reviews about the DXi. Wasn't looking for much just something better then the stock crap. I was gonna do a quick DIY but it started to rain and I was pissed so I just snapped a few pics of the process.

Total cost: $480 for sub w/ box, Alpine 500.1, wiring kit, and the LOC
Time: 3 hours because I took my time trimming wires to length, finding a good place for the amp, and followed the BSW write-up which I had to modify a little because I couldn't use the sub outputs (I tried them first out of curiosity then switched to rear speakers anyway - stupid me)

Jeez man, that sucks, sorry to hear both CCV's went on you. Is your commute local roads or highway? My commute is 20-25 mins but its 18 miles of highway so I am screaming at 5th gear doing 75-80 mph at almost 4k rpm's, which I think helps.

I avoid short starting and stopping trips as much as possible, but sometimes its unavoidable, you just almost have to "plan your driving" around whether the errands you need to do consist of short trips, kind of a pain in the ass.

Also, not sure if the X is garaged but I've noticed that a lot of problems with the CCV happening when the X is parked outside in teens, single digits, etc overnight. My garage isn't heated or really insulated much but it doesnt get below freezing thats for sure.


Hope she doesnt give you much trouble for the rest of the winter! My car is filthy thats why no pics yet (at this point I may as well wait till it warms up)

Check the attached pic, lol

When i installed the dimmer was working in reverse, when dash lights go dim shifter went bright, jus poped shifter boot and swaped around connectets and good to go
