Can be as easy as the 3m headlight restore kit on a cordless drill. I just did mine and they're crystal clear again. The kit is about 30 bucks, and comes with everything you need.

Comes with 500, 800, 3000 grit pads then finish with polish.

Spent an hour or so underneath trying to track down an oil leak, to no avail. Cleaned it up real good with some degreaser and going back under again mid-week.

Got an OBDII scanner to clear what turned out to be the gas cap nag code.

If she continues to pop off codes (so far so good) I'd look into the laptop + inpa cable that Slick mentions. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...i-scanner.html

It's mostly the E53 X5. This is my 4th BMW and it is by far the worst. Like I did a lot of research before getting the X and I knew how they were, but didn't really believe it until now. All bimmers are high-maintenance bitches at times. Everything else that I love about the cars make up for it though.

Any headlight restore kits will do .... BUT i also use 2000, 1500, 1200 grit wet sand paper to sand down all the small chips first.
So basically start off with 1000/1200 grit then move on to the finest which is 2000 grit.

A lot of guides online.

Replaced my angel eye bulbs with LED bulbs instead. What a difference.

Picked it up from dealer service today after 10 days. New auxiliary water pump, idle speed adjustment +50 RPM, drivers door window regulator and clip, and new Nav firmware to clear out the Romanian junk I got off the internet last year. I think I still need a new map disc and a good cleaning of the DVD drive.

Sooo glad to have The Beast back, much better to drive than the 2013 328 I had for a loaner.

Nicel, Mike!

We should get some X5s together someday, seems like quite a few of us in MN.

I'm game. April or May might be good. Would like to see your Dinan for sure.
