Helmuth's query

Thank you!
Hey Helmuth! How are you my man? Here's a screenshot of the iPod interface. I couldn't get a picture of my HUALINGAN right now because I took out the bas__r_ for the meantime Mine is in English so just imagine that the Chinese characters on the right side are the songs and the ones on the right say what song is currently playing. You'll be able to see song, playlist, album, artist lists on the screen as you would on your iPod.

However, the sad thing is that the ipod audio now crackles and has a lot of unrecognizable noises and interference!

Yes, on the HL, you can use the steering wheel controls to adjust the iPod's volume, forward to the next song or back to the previous one. Even rewind and fast forward can be done by pressing the up down button a little longer than usual.

And yes, the iPod charges while it is attached to the Hualingan. However, you have to unplug and plug it to be recognized if you parked your X for a day or 2.

Thanks PhillyX5! I will check the links.

@Aceman1120 - thanks for the response. That answers my navi issues! Four Dynavin questions left to address!

Hi Philly, you're right! The newer units have bigger screens and they look much much better than the old ones with big foreheads!

I found this on ebay... DYNAVIN FOR BMW 5/M5/X5 Series E39/E53 SAT NAV | eBay

I think this is the one, right?

however, the most important issue I need to address FIRST at this point is if the Dynavin can still be installed on my dash that was butchered for the crappy Hualingan. I hope someone has already done the switch!

Would you have any other 'preferred' dealer you can recommend. A dealer that has warranty and can ship to Asia. I'm so much discontented with my HL coming directly from China no after sales warranties or service

Why not just go to the Dynavin web site.

Hold your breath, because it will never happen. The cost to figure it out alone wouldn't make it worth. The gains FAR outweight the losses when upgrading to a deck like this. Just like the OP, I relocated the OBC in the glove box, and everything that is on the OBC can also be seen on the cluster, so the OBC is a little redundant anyways.

OEM look!

I'm very impressed with the new larger and more centered screen. Someone over at Dynavin must have read one of my old posts about the odd looking screen placement on the earlier (someone called it a forehead) version? The unit looks very OEM now! Very well done with some very useful functions. If I didn't already have a factory nav system, I would most certainly go for the android version! Way cool!

Everything except the 2 features I use considerably alot.. the the timed vent program and the ignition disable code program. Also giving up the simplicity. Of changing and navigating the headunit itself.
I watched the dynavin and hualigan videos. It looks like a lot of steps involved just to do one thing + touchscreen = accident waiting to happen. jut my 2 cents.

Why not just install a 3G-enabled iPad? You get iTunes (controllable via your steering wheel), Pandora (also controllable via your steering wheel -- I have no idea how they did this, but hitting the up button on the left side of the wheel advances a track in Pandora!!), awesome stereo-integrated GPS (there are many excellent packages available for the iPad, and you can get traffic for just a few bucks), email, web browser, you can play videos, you can even get Skype with video. There's no cutting or custom installation whatsoever. It takes all of 15 minutes, working slowly, to install. There's just the one plug that handles power and audio (I used an old DiceLink box, but you could use the newer version they sell at places like bavsound.com, and, if your car doesn't have it but you want it, they have one with Bluetooth). There's no need to relocate the computer display to the glove box or anything like that. You even get, whether with iTunes or Pandora, the name of the song that's current playing listed on the bottom of the instrument cluster.

I am just not clear on why you guys are working so hard to install a system that is so much less capable than simply using an iPad. Mine is the old type, but an iPad2 would be even cooler because they are a little smaller and lighter. Of course you could use other tablets too -- I just happened to have a DiceLink and an iPad already.

Just an idea. Telling you, it couldn't be simpler and you get loads and loads and loads of functionality.

I am sure you could find an even better way to do this; the DiceLink I have is several years old and it's just a first-gen iPad. But it certainly works.
