Just the tap out decal alone would scream red flags for me. I'm assuming the seller also has white sunglasses. Good luck dude. You're a brave soul

Sorry, I would never waste a dime on the V8"s, to much work, to much money and way to many issues. The 3.0 when properly tuned or modified is a rocket and does the job so sweelty for half the BMtroubleU. But, each to his own. Best of luck.

The OP (theblue) dropped off Xoutpost around 3.5 yrs ago.

I guess he finally realized there was no end to the issues.

The sad result of this "cheapest X5 ever" abused/neglected vehicle buy is the purchaser now thinks ALL V8 X5s have those same issues.

i just picked my 06 3.0 up for $3000 with 112k on the clock. One owner off lease (bought in 09) and was kept in pretty good condition.

Needs the usual tune-up stuff and shocks, but everything on it works. Can't wait to get wrenching.

and as we know negatively influences the opinion of others less knowledgable. Kind of like retweeting BS.

They're gone now. Recovery took several days. I told them I was looking forward to seeing them again soon. Had to practice that to sound believable.

Fixed that for you.

No, the M54 cars are okay in 6spd but definitely not in auto. My wife's X3 is M54 powered and it weighs considerably less. She feels uneasy driving it in certain conditions due to the lack of ooomph.

Personally, I couldn't own an X5 with less than 8 cylinders. Maintenance and cost may be higher... but so is the enjoyment factor. All of the above is of course IMHO.

Run a 3.0 for a bit. In the city, I was impressed for over 7 years with my little (big) six. Plenty of oomphff down low all the way to surface street sanity. I put down a number of other SUVs who thought the X5 was a peach.

But to your point, the V8 on the highway is intoxicating. Where my 3.0 would die off around 75, 80.. the V8 just pulls and pulls. I start to feel anemic at around 120/130. I'm not sure it's the car as much as it is me. Like the 3.0, I feel a great deal of pride when I run with those who don't know what it can do. Unlike the 3.0, my V8 takes a minute to get there. Still really quick of course, but I would be surprised if the 3.0 and V8's weren't neck and neck for the first 8th or more of a 1/4 mile run. And lets face it.. by the time you've exceeded a surface street speed limit, you should be walking back any way.

So true crystalworks.

I bought NOTHING but 3 pedal vehicles over the past 30 years, one test drive of a V8 E53 had me hooked, even without the manual trans.

50% more torque (vs the M54) in a heavy vehicle is more desirable then a 3rd pedal IMHO.
