I like the 69s, but I'd probably throw some reps. on from a newer X5 if I do something.

more progress.

Driver's door is now working from inside and outside after replacing the whole front door latch at a cost $172 from ESC tuning. Was an expensive fix IMHO, but having driver's door that works does tend to make for a nicer car. I was also amazed how many dismantlers were selling this part used from 100k+ X5s on ebay for MORE money than a got a new OEM part for.

next up the X5 is getting dropped off for:
- state inspection
- re-calibration / diagnosis of air suspension.
- install bushing for thrust arm into steering hub (I tried, I failed)

also just ordered a set of front rotors since mine are below min spec and look all chewed up.

I need to find a cheap source for a drivers front window switch module, mine is functional but some of the plastic is broken so one of the switches keeps falling out.

I would guess that after this trip to the euro specialist I'll be something like $2700-$3000 all in on this X5 project including purchasing, taxes, etc...

The previous owner was ready for something new, and they would only give him a hill of beans for it on trade in. Then, just before he was about to sell it, he had some error messages and didn't want to spend one more dime on it, so I offered him a grand for it. He accepted.

He kept in mechanically in shape, having raised his kids in it from birth, so I knew it wasn't a total pile. Unfortunately some kids keyed it and he never got it fixed, so Ive got a paint job to deal with. A friend is doing it front to back for $1500. Of course, Ill be taking all the trim off etc. to limit his time in the booth. Ready to get that done.
