As an example: Old nav systems employed a setting where the crystal matrix of the screen was calibrated in such way, you could see it at a certain angle - BMW had that, and the e39 screen and e53 screen, were identical in size, but had a different crystal matrix setup. This would make the 2 screens NOT interchangeable, although they would fit and work perfectly. The angle of view would it make unreadable in these cars if they were interchanged. The antiglaring film does just that - antiglare, but if the matrix crystals are not right, you see squat. Newer technology makes it, so you can adjust that, pending on your driving position. Every car has a different driving position, and hence the image is better or worse in different car models, if one cannot adjust these settings. if the screen is positioned more vertical, the difference is not big. But, if like e53, has the mounting position very tilted, this can be a huge issue. This is why BMW issued 2 DIFFERENT matrix crystals oriented screens on these vehicles. Everything else was identical. With the N6, I want to know if one can actually "see" something during a bright day, as per what Jeff posted here, and I quote him (only it's not clear, if this is a setting for night glare only): "LIGHTING AND SCREEN ILLUMINATION Dynavins have always had matching button lighting, not a big deal, but FYI, the buttons match the other buttons in the car and dim with the dash light dimmer. Nice and OEM. Now this next thing may not sound like a big deal at first, but for day to day, real world use....its HUGE. The LCD dimmer can be configured in multiple ways and the dimming amount is fully adjustable. There is now an onboard ambient light sensor as well. SO you can set the unit up to dim when your headlights come on OR when the sensor sees its getting dark, or you can dim it manually. There are pros and cons to each approach and the overall ambient lighting where you are at and your headlight use habits will dictate which setup will work best for you. The adjustable LCD dimmer looks great as it does not just darken the screen as most "dimmers" do, it dims the backlight, so there is no "LCD glow" at night. Between the nicely dimmed screen and the clean white/red on black interface this is the best looking aftermarket unit at night i've ever seen" ![]() Also, four.8is, can you please let me know how the radio reception is? Does it sound solid, like the OEM radio, or does it fade away back-and-forth in certain areas, as you drive? reason is, the 1st generation had a single tuner, and reception was pretty bad. Apparently the newer units have the same technology BMW uses - dual tuners, which keep reception crisp. Thanks

Wow that is a awesome looking headunit! It fits flush just like factory! How much do these units run for? Does the navigation and controls on steering wheel work with no issues? Would love to have something like this installed in my X5! Any info on pricing and where you purchased this would be great.

Doru, the radio reception seems at least as good as the OEM if not better.
I mean I was testing it in an underground parking lot and I was getting pretty good reception. It uses the plug from the oe antenna - one less cable to install which is great I'll do a more in-depth review of all the features once I get home.im not with the x right now and traffic at 9AM sucks

You can use "bimmer" code for $50 off the unit which brings it to $699, so far hearing good radio reception review and such is making me real excited, its literally the only thing my X5 is lacking compared to the 08 GLI I sold was the OEM interface for media and navigation, something about having those nice live maps in your face as opposed to looking down at your phone is so nice.
And all the Bluetooth goodies, etc is a great plus as well. Only thing I'd probably get is the USB extension so I can keep my iphone/ipod etc in the armrest

I do have a question... will this work with the stock nav antenna or do you have to run another wire to the back for the dynavin nav antenna?

I know you have to get the fakra cable if you have oe nav system and connect it to the trunk for the device to work but I'm guessing you'll still have to use the gps antenna provided.not sure though you might wanna shoot Jeff an email
