I expect this will happen with the X5 after the first few days or when I get my first stone chip or when the wheels get dirty and I have to wash it. Oh well...I will have the HUD to pretend I am flying in a plane.... I still wish the SD version was more distinguishable from other models but it looks like I will have to do something tasteful to achieve that. Maybe I'll stick another 3.0SD badge on the tailgate... The M Sport version for example has colour coded bumpers and plastic guard to set it apart

You will like the brakes on the sd, the rotors and pads are bigger than the ones on the 4.8 V8. Also think they have done some computer changes to the Adaptive Drive, it seem a little softer than my last E70. This one floats a little at highway speed. Also lead to believe the 2008 version is 5mm higher in ground clearence so this may have something to do with it and or most likely changed the front springs to little softer rating. It's just not as tight in sports mode on the adaptive drive as the last one.

Went up the beach last friday at full tide for 14klms, the sd does not get stressed compared to the 3.0d I had. Handled the soft sand quite well, the beach is in pretty bad state at the moment and I had to idle over some fairly rough coffee rock. You have to run with the DTC completely off so it lets you spin the wheels through the soft sand otherwise the computer takes all the power away and you come to a stop. (Low tide is ok because the beach is like a National highway and you can leave the DTc on until you come to the cutting to get back onto the normal road at that point you have to turn it off again until you get through the cutting) Got hit by a couple of waves, took me 30min to hose all the foam, sand & crap off when I got to the beach house.

Got my 3.0SD today !!!.
First impressions is that externally it looks very nice. My opinion about the HUD is that it's not what I thought. What I am finding now is that I can read the speed that I am NOT supposed to be doing more accurately. The sound system is great!. It's not the full blown HiFi Pro option but the middle option which i found includes tweeters. I am very happy with the Camel leather and Bamboo trim against the Sports Anthracite trim. I found the engine note to be very different to the E53 3.0d and to my disappointment the turbo whistle is pretty much non existent. The increase in torque, especially at low revs such as on take off is very noticeable. It will launch much more stronger off the mark and the engine sounds much more relaxed. After a few more kilometres on the clock I will give the engine a bit of a thrash. Overall I am glad to have gotten the twin turbo. The Europlates add a nice touch but they don't have a trim around it. My car was the first X5 3.0SD to be delivered from the shipment of cars that came in. The other cars that were on priority delivery was a 335i and M3. At first my HTC Touch Dual PDA/Phone didnt work with the bluetooth but i managed to get it to work just now much to my relief. I recieve alot of calls on the road and I was feeling down at the dealership when it wouldnt work. I certainly do not like the fact that the TV will not display a picture even when the car is stationary - it must be in Park !!. I will be finding a way to bypass this !! Sadly I can't use the Nav DVD player to watch movies I found that the reversing camera picture is not as good as that on my ex E53. The picture quality is poorer and one time it didn't switch off when I drove forward until quite some time later, maybe 20s later !!! I will post pics soon. It's new and the latest for now but after the first stone chip, paint scratch etc it will be just another car... Oh yeah...the car didn't come with the NAV DVD so I will have to wait until it arrives. Apparently they are on back order. Can't believe its sitting in my garage now !!

thanks guys. I'm thinking of washing the car already. Even though it looks really clean from delivery i found by accident when I rubbed my hand along the back bumper that there was alot of black soot, which I didn't notice because its on the part of the bumper that is already black.
I'm assuming the soot is from the exhuast but the exhaust tips still look really clean. Since I'm not exactly sure I will give it a clean and monitor it.
