Actually if you look 2 threads down it's been mentioned for months that the TT engines from the X6 are rumored to go in the X5 starting this March as an 2011 facelift model. The spy pics show the large intake in the bumper--most likely a design for the TT engine.

The X6 50 is really a 4.4Liter Twin Turbo V8 engine which produces 490Hp which is 60Hp less than the X5M. That's a lot of ponies for me, hope they throw that engine on the X5.

OK, I saw the part about the X6es getting upgraded hp on the 6-cyl. and 8-cyl. twin turbos: 326 and 449 hp, respectively. But I did not see anything about upgraded engines on the X5 (aside from the X5///M). Where in the press release did you catch that the X5 will be getting upgrades on the engines???

My X5 4.8 lease is up in February of 2010. I'm wondering if the new X5 will be out relatively close to that. And will it get the twin turbo 3.0 & 4.4? Seems dumb on BMW's part to continue making the 4.8 when the 7 series, X6 both have the new twin turbo 4.4. I would think it only makes sense that engine is going in the new 5 series as well.

I just hope the new X5 does indeed have the 326hp 3.0TT & 449hp 4.4TT. That will give me so many options - a 6 cylinder that is probably as fast or faster than my 4.8, with better gas mileage and hopefully less of a payment, a super fast V8, for just a bit more, and, if I'm really crazy (and willing to give up the 3rd row) the almighty M version...

No where in press release, but I know BMW is moving towards TT engines on all BMW line-up. And if you look at the facelift X5 shots its clear there is a new engine. Why would BMW upgrade X6 engines when it was released just last Spring of 2008? Also, all the BMW engineers etc I have talked to have maintained since X6 release that X6 engines will always be better than X5.
Don't think X5 is getting 449hp engine, reserved forX6.
