If you could change/re-engineer something, what it would be????

One year and 25,752 miles into owning my first X5 I have to say I love this car, particularly the balance and handling. However, there are a few design quirks which I would love to see changed....

1) Navigation - the voice entry is painful. My wife's Buick Enclave touchscreen is so much easier to use, and the entire navigation user interface puts the BMW to shame.

2) Sunroof operation - the slider switch should be replaced with a rotary switch that would allow one touch operation. Its kind of annoying having to wait for the sunscreen to open before you can open the sunroof, and then have to wait for it to reach its first open position before you can move it to the second open position.

What would you change?

Tow Pkg Bumper opening. Too big. BMW did'nt put much thought into it. It definitely could be better.

I'd make them ditch the 3rd row altogether and reduce the car size by about 20%.

This isn't a engineering design flaw--it's a safety feature. When you walk away from someone T-boning you at 40MPH you will understand.

1: in addition to idrive knob, touch screen would be nice
2: license nav software from tomtom or garmin instead. the bmw one is crap
3: needs integrate cameras on all sides. they act as backup/parking cam, trip recorder cam, and accident evidence cam.
4: needs internal SSD hard drives
5: solar charger on roof to power exhaust fan in summer so car doesn't become an oven.

and on and on...

I'd want a better turning radius. The Mercedes ML is easier to get into parking spots.

Allow me to open the door and drive the car backwards!

Make the camera go off and on instantaneously whenever it is in reverse.

I second the trailer hitch opening improvement.

Since the running boards serve no real useful purpose other than aestethics, make them operate opposite other power driven running boards; i.e. they retract when you open the door! And since they would retract, then they should be made bigger so they could actually be used and in this scenario, their retraction would be a driver selectable option so children and others who deem them useful could actually use them.

Let there be constant 12VDC at the rear power port.

Provide a 110VAC plug.
