I'm still a bit confused here. Are you guys buying these cameras to replace your stock cameras, or because your vehicles did not have cameras do begin with?

If you're replacing your stock cameras, what's the point? What is less grainy night vision going to do for you? Just curious? I too like to tinker, but if you already have a camera what gain is there, material terms?

Video Interface Unit for 2010 X5

I understand that someone of you might have received the X5 video interface units ordered by us_matrix. I would appreciate it very much if you could post your feedback on the installation of the unit that works with the new iDrive of 2010 X5.

Thanks in advance.

i agree with jim M. Dealing with US Matrix has been excellent. He keeps you infomed about the status of the order, as well as diy instructions. I have not recieved the camera as of yet for the reason Jim M stated but have recieved the video unit. I live in the Toronto area , so my shipping was about $37. I plan to get the system installed at an auto elctronics
shop like Kromer Radio. On a side note, I have a non-nav 2009 x5 30i
and am wondering if the installation of this system affects the warranty
in any way on the X5 ?

I am interested in this system too while waiting for my 2010 x5 diesel to be delivered around end of Feb. Have the same concern over voiding the factory warranty. Does anybody know the answer?

Also a newbie question: I see a lot of people here discussing all kinds of mods to their X5, would it be a problem in terms of warranty and insurance? I am shopping for insurance on my X5, they do ask the question whether the car has been modified. Thanks,

1. BMW recommends not to connect BMW unapproved aftermarket electronic devices to your car, as they may interfere with the car's electronics, since everything is computer controlled.
2. Being said that, in case you have any electronics related problem, I would recommend you remove any of these connections before taking your car to the dealer for service.
3. Regarding other mods, yes they do void the warranty...in some cases the warranty gets voided only for the replaced parts, but in some cases it may also result in much more than that...e.g you install aftermarket brake pads, BMW will void the brake warranty
4. Insurance companies tend to charge more for cars that have been modded.

Thanks a bunch Shashankmittal. Sounds too much for a newbie like me. Guess I will hold off on these mods for now.
