"lbd" - Local BMW Dealer I really feel like another major rant is in order but will spare thee the dubious pleasure of experiencing my spilled guts... well at least for the most part. First a question - has anyone experienced their sound system cutting out all sound at random times for no apparent reason? Well I have... it started about a month and a half ago... all sound, not just the radio or CD, but also the proximity sensor beeps, phone, nav and everything else in between just stops... and doesn't come back until after the car is turned off and parked for a long (hours) time. And sometimes the sound doesn't even come back the next day (happened once). All visuals appear to work fine. No faults in the system stored of any kind as per lbd. lbd had the car on two occasions for days at a time including techs driving it home to try and reproduce the problem. 1st time they had the car they were able to reproduce the problem but not able to figure out why it was happening. They did notice I had the "unauthorized" phone paired based on which BWM NA tech in their moment of brilliance stated to unpair the offending device and drive the car. Well ok... I've been "caught" transgressing and decided to try it... so took the car back and it even looked promissing that day... drive all the way back home (about 1 hr) the soudn worked. Same thing 1st part of the following day. My feeling of joy was slowly trickling back even though I was half consumed by scheming how to comply w/the requirement of using one of the idiot phones "authorized" by BMW yet also be able to get a Droid or something more civilized at the same time (I figured out a way BTW...). But nooooooooo! The sound cut out @ 12:47 pm... and then was on and off at completely random times the rest of the weekend. So... as per agreement w/the lbd service rep I drove back to service to return the car for further scrutiny. Of course the sound worked fine all the way there and for the next two days while in service. The most recent response by BMW NA tech support via a peel request from the lbd...? I should consider getting a different phone! Ok... so as much as this is p**sing me off, I somewhat resigned myself that this might have to happen. And I need a new phone anyway... So I go to Verizion Wireless site, and guess what!? Not a single phone on the BMW "authorized/approved/allowed" list of Verizon phones is available for sale from Verizon Wireless! I am not sure when / how often Verizon changes their entire lineup and how often BMW updates their crappy phone list but they are 100% out of sync as of today! What a f*** up! So... lets see... I have a bluetooth phone - Motorola Krazr (about 3 yrs old) from a major US carrier - Verizon Wireless and a BMW car with which not only I am not allowed to pair it with but I should explicitly turn off the bluetooth feature on entry (or maybe even within close proximity)! Even if I accepted the ridiculous position/statement from BMW/which in and of itself is a problem, the fact that they sell a car w/bluetooth capability but oh by the way it just doesn't happen to work w/any bluetooth devices on the market as of today is just NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! Ehem... any ideas? BMW are you listening to this? Any hope on revising the list of phones to something made this century? Or better yet, explain why all other bluetooth devices don't seem to have a problem communicating except for your cars? Ok, no rant per se... but a bitching episode none the less... Any helpfull or wiseass advice? spacey ![]() EDIT 0: Ok, after further analysis of the BMW crappy phone list vs. Verizon Phone list I have found 3 phones out of 10 which are on both lists - LGVX8360, LGVX9200 (enV3) and LGVX11000 (enV Touch). None of which I have any desire to own let alone actually pay money for. Each requires additional $10+ data plan and for a non BlackBerry/iPod/Droid phone that does not make sense to me. I don't think you have a phone issue. I have a Verizon Motorola Razr phone paired with my 2010 X5 35D which is not on the approved list and I have none of your problems. It is on BMW's list of previously approved list.
You have a problem with the audio system. Keep the phone unpaired with the car until your problem happens again and then take it back again. Ask the service manager and your sales person for help. Also ask them to start a case with BMW USA about your issue. Write a letter to the dealer's general manager and ask for help if the first does not help. Also, check your Virginia's lemon laws. In California if you take a car in three times for the same problem and it is not fixed they have to take the car back. Above all don't get mad at them in person. Be nice but firm. They are just blaming the phone because they are stumped. Good luck. Chuck |

I'm using an 8 year old Sony-Ericson T616 and my wife is using an only slightly newer S-E Z520a with no audio issues. The next thing you know BMW dealers will be doing strip searches of their customers to verify that their underwear is on the BMW approved list ![]() Funf Dreisig |

You have the same issue as I had, which had nothing to do with the mobile phone. The Audio would go off and on randomly, and then it eventually went off completely for three weeks (whilst I waited for a dealer appointment!!). Anyway the tech unplugged all the wiring and plugged it back in again and the problem was solved. He reckoned that there was a bad connection which was connecting and disconnecting whilst driving. I eventually got the tech to drive around in the car for 30 mins to replicate the problem. The movement was an essential part of the problem. Anyway it went away - however I do still have a slight issue in that all audio is lost now when the bootlid (trunk) is opened - which is really weird, and suggests that there is a wiring short somewhere. I am waiting for two foglight clusters to arrive at the dealer to replace my current faulty ones, and once they arrive they will diagnose the audio problem - the tech seems to think the two are related, given that the only wiring going into the bootlid is for the lights.

BMW does not seem to state anywhere - exactly which bluetooth profiles and specs are supported. Instead we get an outdated list of phones.
In addition, there are few, if any, phones on this list where every feature is supported! BMW should be able to do much better than this. |

Sorry to hear you are having difficulty. It seems dealerships like to blame the customer's phones (even if they are on their "approved" list). I remember with my '06 Range Rover Supercharged, I was having a lot of issues (I mean of course, it's a Range Rover
with my audio and bluetooth. The phone I was using was on their list, but according to the dealer, it was not the "best" version of the approved phone! On my '07 X5 3.0si I had multiple times where the audio, especially the Sirius radio would just go silent. The dealer did one of the infamous software updates, in addition to the connection to the audio system and the receiver...and it actually did get a little better. Good luck. Sorry to hijack your thread, but I have been wanting to ask Member FunfDresig a question! Are you trying to say 530 or 35 in German? If it's 35...it would be Funfunddreßig. If it's 530...it would be Funfhundreddreßig! Freude am Fahren. |

Same exact issue im having with my 2010 35d with Premium Sound.... All this time i thought im the only one having this issue... only thing different is im using an iPhone (1st Gen) My car was at the dealer last week, and of course, they cant replicate the issue, all sound went back, even after a day i took it home... I even tried turning off Bluetooth on my iPhone, same result, the sound will just cut off and stay off... so i dont think it has to do with Bluetooth connection... Really annoying...

This thread seems to be heading in two directions. The primary, I suspect, is the stereo cutting out. I have nothing to contribute there, but others are offering good input. I can offer a little about the phone system.

As for Verizon phones, in case it wasn't clear from my last post (#4 above), that link takes you to a list of Verizon phones. If you click on a phone, it will show you a list of supported vehicles. For example, if you click on Blackberry Storm 9530 you will see a table and in that table: HW: 9530 and SW 9530 4.7.0 Bundle 92 BMW 1,3,5,X3,X5,X6,Z,M Hope something in this helps (at least the phone side of this thread). |
