HELP me buy my First X5
Jet Blk/ w oyster int. 7300K miles I haven't negotiated anything yet. The dealer is asking $49,995. I tried getting the value on KBB but it says the car is worth 3K more than the dealing is asking for! With the KBB value throwing me off I don't know where to starting negotiating or how much i should pay? On a different note, have any of you guys purchased a vehicle out of state? Am i paying taxes where i'm purchasing the car(Arizona), or is it where i reside? (Cali) I did a little research and it seems I would pay taxes where it live. But when talking to the sales guy, he told me i would be paying taxes in AZ, and when i get back to cali I would be just paying for the registrations fees. NOt sure if its true, or was the salesman trying to pull a fast one on me. Anyways, any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

That actually doesn't sounds like a bad deal. Assuming there are no issues with it when you arrive, I would jump on it. Of course you should try and work a couple of grand off of it, but overall, it's worth considering. I would use the fact that you're from out of state to do your negotiating over the phone and email. But whatever you do, make sure to get the sales manager's written approval on the final price before you head down there to pick it up.
As for the taxes, you pay them at the time of registration. The dealer should give you a 30-day tag, and then you'll pay your taxes where you register and operate your vehicle. That is the general rule, but it's a good idea to read through the CA - DMV's website. Here's the link: How To Register A Vehicle from Out-of-State (Nonresident Vehicle) Good luck with your purchase! |

Start a dialog via e-mail, have something in writting form them with the vin# and the price you are going to pay. Reason why? I recenttly purchased my vehicle from a delaer 2 hours away. When I got there the sales manager tried to sell us another car and said the car we were looking at was listed wrong on there website. Luckily I had the e-mails between myself and the internet sales manager, stating the vin# and price discussed. There also 3rd party companies that will look over the vehicle on your behalf for around $100.00-$150.00, google "3rd party car inspections".

that's actually a nice car...Premium, Comfort Seats, rear climate, navigation, heated seats...I think price wise its fair. Though a couple thousand less would make it a good deal.

I'd call the local dealer service dept in AZ and give them VIN and see what it's (short) history is. If it was purchased from one of the several dealers it shouldn't be hard to find out about it...or run a carfax and find out where it was purchased and call that dealer if not in AZ.
When I bought my 2004 X5 out of state I had the BMW dealer in Texas do a pre-inspection for like $225 or something like that; it was peace of mind before I made the purchase. I had mine shipped and didn't see it in person, and I got lucky because it was pristine when it arrived in it's single car enclosed trailer to my doorstep. But just perform some diligence to know it's history and since it has a warranty and barring no accidents it could be a good buy.

UPDATE: Found out that the car was purchased from Scottsdale, AZ BMW. Dealers looked up the Vin # and report shows no service was done on the car at all. Car has only 7300k miles on it so not even its first oil change yet.
SO i called back the Chrysler Dealership to start on negotiation. Told salesman the situation and how much i was looking to spend on a car. I thought $46,500 was a good starting point for negotiation. I knew they would not go for that, so ideally i was hoping to get the car for around $47,500. $48,500 is my max! Anyways, so i shoot him the offer, and he said "NO!" He basically said that there is no room for negotiation and $49995.00 is the final offer. I was expecting a counter offer, but no such thing happened. He says if they don't sell it to a customer, they're going to sell it to a BMW dealership. (I think that's a bunch of hogwash but whatevers!) At the end, i told the salesman "if you're willing to come down on the price, give me a call", and that was basically it. I'm thinking about emailing the salesman another offer, or should i just wait to see if he calls back? |

I don't think that they're going to go down much if anything. The Active Ventilated seats alone are a pretty pricey upgrade. Comfort package and everything else for such a new car, pretty damn good price.

Then what's the "cooled seats" feature? I've only seen that on active ventilated.

I spent four months dealing online with BMW dealers for a steal. If they say no, they probably are serious. Usually they will play a few $100 here or there or start offering finance assistance if there is room to play the numbers, so "no" is probably just that.
As far as California, u will pay AZ tax and show proof of sales tax paid when u register in cali. U would only pay CA tax if u had bought in Oregon or in a no sales tax state. |
