So it's the DRL controller I bought off eBay. Swapped controllers and the headlamps with the bad controller didn't work. Ordered new one and arranged to return the old. Had a guy code the car beforehand and didn't help. For $150 he set up the coding for the LEDs and got rid of some error codes I had for upgraded fog lights, tail lights, etc. He also changed some pins around for reasons I didn't understand. Gonna learn coding finally and already downloaded BMW tools (NCS Expert, etc). Can't wait for new controller to arrive. Keeping my fingers crossed.

BTW, the guy coded the existing FRM3. He said no need to purchase a new one. I won't know for certain until I get both headlamps working though. Lesson learned as far as the controller is concerned is to pay the few extra bucks it costs to purchase parts off eBay that are tested. Ugh!

Good to know. I had FRM2, so I had to swap it. What pins are you talking about? If you want the rings to dim with the lights on, you have to add two pins to your harness.

Yes, apparently they began installing FRM3s in 2010. Don't know what pins were switched but it had smthing to do with the tail lights methinks. Sry, I can't be more specific.

very pricey, but tempting! If I do the swap, that's double work! SMH!

How much would this cost for both of the coding? I'm planning on doing this with my friends 2012 LCI before he trades it in...

Are ALL parts for this reverse compatible?

I am going to assume that you are using a new (or used FRM3). You need to setup WINKFP. Look at this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24HEoSdj6X8

If you have it configured properly, just open WinKFP

Comfort Mode (F1)
>>Update ZUSB (F3)
>>>ECU Family (FRM3/FRMF3) and then hit "OK" (I can't remember if it will say FRMF3 but choose the FRM with the number 3)
>>>>Enter VIN (F4)
>>>>>Prog. ZB-Update (F3)

Go through the process and at the very end it will say "programming ok." When all is done turn off the car for 5 minutes and lock it. Then plug back into the car and run NCS Expert. Use SG_coderien to reset the module using the profile that doesn't allow manipulation. Code the FRM3. Change to the profile that allows manipulation, and change the FA date to 1011 (October 2011). Code the FRM3 again. The scripts are smart enough to know that a car with FA date of 1011 had LED rings, and will code the FRM3 appropriately
