Quick question on the angel eye brightness. It doesn't seem to be changing with the ELM327. Also, when some setting don't seem to be taking like coding the angel eyes welcome feature to Hard on. It seems to be stuck at soft on and they flicker every time I unlock the car.

Same here. The gauges show but no data.

Got my X5 back from the dealer this afternoon after it spent a week there and everything is working once again. About an hour after I picked it up I had coded all the options that I had before using BMWhat with zero problems. Still trying to figure out the brake force display options and what they do.

Correct me, do you have CIC in your E70 or NBT? I was told by my coder ir wasn't possible unless an E Series had NBT installed.

That is correct. The HP/Torque display can only be added to NBT vehicles.

Brake Force Display coding question

Below I have listed all of the brake force display options in the BMWhat application. I have BOLDED the current values for each of the options. Some of them are obvious like blinking speed and minimum speed. The others are a little confusing to me.

Brake force display 1/2: ACTIVE / not active
Brake force display 2/2: active / active(alternate) / NOT ACTIVE
Brake force display - minimum speed: 20 kph / 50 kph
Brake force display - blinking speed: SLOW / fast
Brake force display - angel eyes: NOT ACTIVE / on / flashing
Brake force display - outer brake lights: NOT ACTIVE / on / flashing
Brake force display - inner brake lights: on / flashing / CURRENT VALUE
Brake force display - third brake light: NOT ACTIVE / on / flashing
Brake force display - tail lights: NOT ACTIVE / on / flashing
Brake force display - rear fog lights: NOT ACTIVE / on / flashing

I assume that 'outer' means lights on the vehicle quarter itself and 'inner' means lights on the tail gate. I didn't even know there were inner brake lights; presumably these are lights above the rear fog lights on the tail gate which would mean part of the Celis assembly??? Maybe this is for older non-Celis equipped tail lights?

Why does each of the light option have three options: not active, active and flashing? Why not either active and not active or flashing and not active? What does 'active(alternate)' mean for Brake force display 2/2?

Per the owner's manual, the brake force display is exhibited by the rear fog lights. I found that the rear fog light option is set to 'not active' currently in my FRM according to BMWhat. Right now, when I depress my brake pedal, bulbs beneath the outer Celis tail lights come on; this would be 'outer' lights. I can't really test the brake force display, of course.

What I want is for the 'outer' lights (the current brake lights) and the rear fog lights to fast flash at the lower speed threshold.

To accomplish this, I think I need to set the following options:

Brake force display 1/2: ACTIVE / not active
Brake force display 2/2: ACTIVE / active(alternate) / NOT ACTIVE
Brake force display - minimum speed: 20 kph / 50 kph
Brake force display - blinking speed: SLOW / FAST
Brake force display - outer brake lights: NOT ACTIVE / on / FLASHING
Brake force display - rear fog lights: NOT ACTIVE / on / FLASHING

My questions in review:

1) What are 'inner' brake lights?
2) Why the three options (not active/on/flashing) for each light set?
3) What does 'active(alternate)' mean for 'Brake force display 2/2'?
4) Why the 'Brake force display 1/2' and 'Brake force display 2/2'?
5) How can I get the rear fog lights and outer brake lights to fast flash at the lower speed threshold?

Sorry for the long post but I am little gun-shy because of the issue I had the first time trying to code this brake force display behaviour. Now, I don't think my problem was caused by the application directly but what can I say, I'm nervous. It cost me $750 and week away from my X5. I don't want a repeat.

On another note, got the rear fog lights "installed" and working this afternoon. They are awesome.

I sent my questions to the developers and received a very quick reply from Arian.

1) Brake force display - inner brake lights: on / flashing / CURRENT VALUE
In this instance “current value” means “not active"

2) I assume that 'outer' means lights on the vehicle quarter itself and 'inner' means lights on the tail gate.
Yes that is correct. I’ve marked the inner brake lights in the attachment.

3) Why does each of the light option have three options: not active, active and flashing?
Not active: The lights doesn’t turn on for the BFD
Active: The light turns on and stays on – just like with normal braking
Flashing: The light flashes

4) What does 'active(alternate)' mean for 'Brake force display 2/2'?
There are two ways to activate this option. “active” works for most of the models, but sometimes you need to use the alternative way. We also have alternative codings for the angel eye brightness as well for the same reason :-)

5) Why the 'Brake force display 1/2' and 'Brake force display 2/2'?
You need to activate the Brake force display in two places of the FRM module, hence the two codings.

They concurred that my coding should accomplish what I want which is flashing outer brake lights and rear fog lights at the fast rate from the lower speed threshold.

In thinking about it, I think I'm just going to code the rear brake lights to flash which is European behaviour. I would like to know what the slow and fast blink rates are, though.
