Just hooked up everything today. This system rocks! Now my buddies with a tahoe/suburban Z71 are now getting the same sub/amp combo for their rides. It just fills everything and isn't obnoxious and ghetto. You can't hear anything outside of the X5 either which is nice. This is a must do mod.

Hey everyone ... I still have the box/sub/amp laying in my store room since 2010
All my next cars are having very nice sound systems so I did not use them ... if anyone interested, and can cover international shipping, please let me know

Hi all, this must be the longest thread ever!!! had my X for about 2 months now and love it. The Satnav is Kaput, the 6 cd changer only works on 1-4. So have made the decision that the lot is coming out and being replace with my trusted kenwood multimedia setup.

My question is to all who have installed aftermarket head units, what did you replace? mine has the 16:9 sat nav with broken MK3 and DSP. I would like to keep the BM functions and as my HU is single din i can fit a MID below it in the correct position. I will also be building the Essam box and installing over the standard rubbish.

Sorry for jumping on to this thread but this seems to be the place where a lot of people have upgraded there head units.

Hi All,

I just joined today after reading nearly all 46 pages of this amazing subwoofer mod thread.

Props to the OP and everyone who contributed details and refinements.

I am making plans to add a sub to my 2003/4.4i w/OEM Nav (no DSP) and have PMd Allstarsrd12 to see if he is still building boxes that he offered a few years ago. Otherwise, I'll explore mod-ing the DSP box to maximize utilizing the cavity space without tearing my hair out getting my woodworking skills up to speed.

Mike

If you get an answer, let me know please. I would be interested in it as well. I know he hasn't been on the board a long time, but I would probably buy one too, might make it worth more of his time.

I just finished my sub/amp install and I am very pleased with my results.

I used the OEM DSP sub (yeah, I took the easy way out ) and enclosure and this amp

Power Acoustik RZ1 2300d RZ1 2300d 2300W Max Monoblock Class D Amplifier 709483043763 | eBay

It fits absolutely perfectly between the driver side wall and the full size spare tire. Makes for a very short length of power wire to the factory power distribution supply box, which conveniently had a 80 amp fuse available and unused.

The rest of the wiring, including the outstanding high level sub output wiring locations, went well in my Nav/non-DSP X5 by using this:

The "bump" is just fine for me even with the factory cover over the DSP sub.
