Looking forward to seeing how yours was made and your opinion on the sound. I'm still trying to get opinions from stereo guru guys http://forum.soundillusions.net/30-c...91347&posted=1 on what would be the nest fit for the size of box we're forced to use. I'm not saying the Pioneer shallow isn't the best, but i'm trying to see if anyone who does this more often than we do would offer different choices.

I ended up buying an empty BSW box from a member a while back, and first tried a 8" JL W6. It sounded as good as you'd expect a JL to sound, but the surround split on me.... twice. I ended up buying an 8" infinity that not only was half the price of the JL, better design and sounds much better!

It seems no matter what subs I have ever had in the past, they always end up being replaced with infinity and I am always happier with the sound. If you can fit a 10" (or at least an 8") I'd recommend giving the infinity a try. (I'm running it off of a DEI directed D800 mono amp w/remote up front)

I have this in the 8" and am satisfied that I could not get better sound out of an 8".

But since that model has been replaced with this one...

Infinity Reference 860W 8" Subwoofers Car Subwoofers Car Audio Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navigation - Sonic Electronix

But would recommend this as long as you have the mounting depth for it. It is good for 0.3 sealed, and I prefer the precise sound of sealed boxes myself. (had a pair of these in my old ford bronco and they sounded better/cleaner than JL W3v2 dual voice coils)

Top mounting depth of the 10 is 6.5", so that's not gonna give much breathing room for the voicecoil seeing that Zerochief said his box is only like 4-5" deep. I'm still planning on deleting the gas door locking mechanism and making the box a wee larger to fill the space.

The 8" has a shallower mounting depth, but both ads say that a shallow mounting depth box isn't ideal, so I think these are off the list also. Sounds like you've had luck w/ it, but you also did that you're as happy as you can be w/ it being an 8...I'm still under the bigger is better impression, so i'm still shopping around for a 10" unless we can find a way to port and polyfill the 8".

Yeah, for the music you listen to ported with polyfill would sound good... I listen to some pretty brutal death metal so need the precision or a sealed box for the fast assed double kick drums. I plan in the future on making a box to fit a 10", possibly a 12" if I can figure out a way to shoehorn it in letting the box go down and out replacing plastic panels and such for added airspace.

Was thinking of making a perfect mold of that back area with expanding foam in a plastic bag, then modifying it and using that as a mold for a perfect fit fiberglass box. That may make enough room for a 12" sub in a sealed box.

I don't think there is enough area on the face of the enclosure for a 12" sub unless you relocate the fusebox or make the box sit flush w/ the fender/cargo tray.

Go idea w/ the bag and expanding foam though.

m5james, have you looked at the ID10 sub from image dynamics (or better yet, the IDQ10v3?

I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze a 10 inch sub into the stock enclosure without doing too much work.
