Definitely worth it.

You'll need an OS CD from V24 or later.
DO NOT use V32 - this is not available as Mode2/Form1 format
Mk3 requires Mode2/From1 otherwise it crashes
You'll also need the Key CD to unlock the new OS version - google for it.

Then you need to get the right map CD for your area of the world.

Yes, the maps are help on the CD.

You have to remove the motorola phone control unit and fit the ULF bluetooth (which also gives nav voice control) or the TCU GSM phone controller - which has bluetooth and voice control 8for phone only, no nav voice control)

And your monitor is loosing vertical sync with the TV tuner.

Anyway, if the tuner is analogue, you need to check if you still have any analogue TV stations in your neck of the woods. Many countries have turned them off.

Try a battery reset (battery off, wait 15min, battery on), making sure that you wait until the nav shuts down before disconnecting the battery (nav red LED must be off)

Step 1 - Get a CD with Maps on... Can that be any version? Can I get them off ebay or can I borrow them off someone else and then load them on and give CD back?

My X5 already has voice control from the steering wheel - where is this coming from? Where is the best place to get this ULF or TCU GSM?? Are the expensive?

Do you mean to reset the car battery? If this under bonnet or the one in the boot under the wheel? Will this affect anything else?

If its the one under the spare wheel, isn't the TV module located somewhere there, couldn't I just pull the power on that?

There is no harddrive inside the nav. The map stays on the CD.
If you want a map displayed on the nav, the map CD must be present in the nav computer

Your voice control will be from a ULF, or TCU, or SES module, depending on what is fitted.

Your car only has one battery (in the boot)
Yes, it WILL affect everything else. For the period that the battery is disconnected, the vehicle will have no power - you will not be able to start or drive it :-)

Otherwise no other side affects other than trip computer being reset to 0.

The TV module is located.... under the spare wheel!
But resetting the power also resets the monitor, which is what you want to do. You could also pull loads of fuses, but the battery is easier...

So disconnected battery and reconnected... still the same.

Pulled plugs on TV module... still the same.

Pulled fuses 7, 72 and 73.

Still the same.

Had a mess about with the screen etc and managed to get sound but still no picture... just the juddering lines.

There was a lot of white powder in the battery compartment, like corrosion etc...

Vacuumed it all up, still the same.

Any ideas??

Remove and inspect video module, and it's connectors, for water damage and/or corrosion.

Removed the whole 'casing' that contains the radio, Video, etc.... the connectors are fine - no corrosion.

But I couldnt get the actual video module out of the large black plastic casing.

But on the way to work this morning, I was fiddling with the screen and switched to TV...

I was getting sound from the screen, but the same rolling lines - but at 50mph....

Do you think someone could have misfitted a TV in motion cable!?!

TV in motion cables don't upset the video picture.

Does the menu appear stable when you click the monitor control knob?
If so, check country settings for the TV

I dont see any TV menu....

It is just rolls/judders on the main screen menu, where you can choose OBC, TV, Telephone etc.

What else would allow the TV to work whilst the car is in motion.

Where would I change settings? It does look like something that would happen when there is a conflict between PAL/NTSC.

Then the monitor cannot sync to the video module

Tip: if the nav picture is stable, then the monitor and wiring from video module to monitor is all OK. The problem is likely inside the video module.

There are 2 ways:

1. An external device fitted to the loom right beside the video module that blocks the speed signal, or

2. The video module has its setting changes to allow TV in motion (simplest way)

If you see not obvious external device plugged into the video module, then your video module must simply be set for TV in motion.

It's a setting inside the video module.

It's in the video module menu, but you cannot see it because of the rolling screen. But this is not the issue.

Time to try another video module (friend, wrecker, etc)
