2. Macs are more secure as you state because they are smaller targets. You don't need antivirus software on macs. The only thing, that would be doing is preventing viruses from spreading onto more PC's. (Your mac would read an already infected file just fine and the virus would have no effect, but say if you sent it to a PC, the file could still effect the PC causing it to catch the virus...) |

Last question on this thread from me. I'm also thinking about getting the new Apple AirPort Extreme wireless router. The list price is $179.00, which is about $100 more than some higher end 802.11g standard routers. If it's 5X faster, and has 2X the distance capability of a 802.11g router, it seems like a wise investment to me. What do you experts think?
http://images.apple.com/airportextre...p_20070109.png http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/ae-diagram.gif Blazing performance. Based on an IEEE 802.11n draft specification, AirPort Extreme features three antennas and uses a technology called multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) to transmit multiple data streams simultaneously. The result? AirPort Extreme delivers data transfer speeds up to five times those of previous-generation 802.11g wireless networks — while achieving up to twice the range.1 And with its support for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies, AirPort Extreme reduces the possibility of interference from appliances and cordless phones that use the 2.4GHz frequency.LINK Here's the bonus: Extended Service and Support The AppleCare Protection Plan for your computer covers the AirPort Extreme Base Station. |
Been thinking of doing the same myself.

UPDATE: I'm sure you'll be glad to hear that I don't have any more questions  . I just placed my order since I have at least two trips planned prior to the release of Leopard, and I'll just decide later if I want to upgrade to that OS. The computer will be delivered as soon as Friday, and by Monday at the latest. I paid the extra $18.00 for 2 day shipping.
Here is where I landed: * 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Black of course) * 1GB memory (After speaking with an Apple Store rep., 1GB will be plenty of memory for MY needs. Not upgrading to 2GB basically pays for the modem too! * 120GB hard drive * Double-layer SuperDrive * Airport Extreme Modem (Just picked up at Apple store since ordering online would have it show up days later than the computer :). * AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) I also bought the Brenthaven Edge I for 13-inch MacBook... ($49.00) http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Im...lk_altview.jpg Featuring Brenthaven's own CORE Protection System, the Edge I gives your notebook maximum protection from the bangs and bumps of daily life. Its slim design--custom fit for the 13-inch MacBook--perfectly combines light weight with heavy protection. The Edge I is also the ultimate in versatility. Use it as a sleek shoulder case--or simply remove the shoulder strap and flatten the retractable handle to transform it into a sleeve you can slip inside another bag. And for storing essentials such as your daily newspaper or a few files, there's a convenient external back pocket. Of course, the bag comes with Brenthaven's legendary lifetime guarantee. Eric, you may want to consider this case. It looks pretty lightweight and versatile to me ;). It's in the Apple Store LINK LATEST UPDATE: I can be such a dork sometimes  . After I decided to not upgrade to 2GB of Ram, I am simply ordering a basic model. So why did I order it online when I could pick it up at my Apple store today, which is only 10min. away. So I called Apple and tried to cancel the order. She said that if I kept the order with them that she would credit me $60. Then after a little more sweet talking to her, she decided to credit me the $18.00 2 day shipping fee. I now saved a total of $78.00 by keeping my order with them, and it should still show up on Friday :D. So with the savings, I'm going to pick up the Apple wireless Bluetooth mouse at the Apple Store for $69.00. http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Im...eyfeatures.gif I guess today is my lucky day  |
congrats on the purchase (and the 6k post)! Nice setup, the laptop bag looks pretty sweet! I would have probably waited for Leopard, but hey, it's your computer.
Have fun with it! |
