I thought it was the ISO file you opened in Navtweak?

Nope, it's the NAVBOOT file inside the ISO.

V29? Do you mean v28? or has v29 been released?

pulare 03-02-2007 02:38 PM

where did you download the new v29 files from. Are they released already.

Geo 03-02-2007 02:41 PM

sorry, typo....meant v28

wrong directory ???

you have to open this file: "navboot" (no extension)
located in: <drive>:\V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S\app_sw

Geo 03-02-2007 04:14 PM

thanks.... almost there

so I expand the *.mdf file into a directory structure, find the precious navboot file, edit it in Navtweak to my heart's content, save the new navboot file....

then rewrite the entire directory back to an ISO file, and then burn that to a CD

is that about it?

something isn't working

Richard E39 03-02-2007 04:28 PM

yes, that's right !

- install "Magic ISO Maker"
- extract the navboot file AND(!) ... read below
- edit it with NavTweak
- drag&drop the edited navboot file into Magic ISO Maker
- "save as..." ISO
- burn the ISO file

The nav unit doesn't allow it to "update" with the same software as already installed.
So you have to fake the SoftwareVersion.
do the following: also extract the 2 .tbl files from the directoy:
<drive>:\V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S
Open it in an HEX editor (like PSPad http://www.pspad.com/en/)

In the first line you find: 30 38 30 30 This means: 0800 So: Software-Version 08.00
Just edit the last 30 to 31 and you nav unit will think it's a new Software Version and you can update your V28 without prior downgrade to V27

The next time you update, you can edit it back to 0800 then 0801 again...

well, this is getting a bit frustrating, and I'm burning through lots of CD's

fortunatly, I've got another 50 or so

ok, I've done exactly as you described above, even have downloaded MajicISO and am now using it instead of UltraISO or the others...

so, I opened up the v28.mdf file in MajicISO, and extracted the navboot file to a safe place. I then edited the navboot file in Navtweak, and dragged it back into the same directory location within the still open v28.mdf file in MajicISO. It copied over the old version, no problem

Then, just as you suggested, I did the same thing with the two *.tbl files and changed the 3030 to 3031, saved them and dragged them back into their respective positions again in the still open MajicISO

ok, so now its time to write the whole thing out to an ISO file

when I tried buring it directly to a CD it asked for an existing ISO file to burn

well, ok so I just took what I had opened and saved it as a new ISO file

then burned that ISO file to a CD

when I insert this into my navigation computer on the car, (just as instructed, key in position one, and all that), it takes it and begins crunching away, it says its updating the system....after a minute it comes up with the message

DEFECTIVE CD

I'm stuck

Rather than trying to convert it to an ISO, I'd suggest just downloading Imgburn (www.imgburn.com) - a great free app that will directly burn the mds/mdf image format. Burn slow (4x) on good quality media.

Did anyone ever figure out which rom_col_x allows the widescreen colour set 1 (normally the blue colour scheme) to be changed. I read through the various discussions on the subject but wasn't sure what the end conclusion was.

Cheers.
