Use ImgBurn andopen each image - the original is a Mode2 image, and should remain so (so that it works in a Mk3)

Mk3 hangs up with Mode1

Jochen,

Thanks for your response. This explains a lot. I made a v.28 custom splash ISO and sent it to a friend. He was not able to load it on his MK3. I presume that the ISO was recompiled in Mode 1.

I have been reading about the differences between Mode 1 and 2, and it appears that Mode 1 actually has more error correction. Why did BMW build the older nav units to use Mode 2?

I presume MK4 can read both Mode 1 and 2?

Thanks again.

Mk4 can read Mode1 and Mode2

Mk3 has problems with Mode1 OS CD, hangs and goes into an endless loop

I think the 'Mode2 only' issue was a bug :-)

V29.1 loaded up and working. The CD did get stuck and with UCrewX5's advice yesterday, I drove the M3 around for about 20 min and voila, the CD got ejected. Who knows why? Probably will get the dealer to look at getting me a replacement MK4 under warranty....

Anyhow, I now have 4-1/91.

I think the only difference I see while using Nav MAP 2007-1 for North America with Nav OS V29.1 is that in the "Input Destination Screen",

Instead of Country only (i.e. UNITED STATES vs. CANADA), now you have an option to select Country/State/Province....

For example, instead of just choosing UNITED STATES or CANADA, you can choose different STATES in the U.S. (e.g. MICHIGAN or CALIFORNIA) to help narrow your search for cities and/or street addresses or PROVINCES in Canada.

I don't think you could do that with V28 (unless I missed that last time).

So, let's say you are looking for MAIN STREET in NEW JERSEY, you can narrow the search to look for MAIN STREET only in NEW JERSEY and not the whole U.S.A.

So I went back to V28 - then my Map DVD (backup) locked up...the Nav unit displayed what looked like a really old menu/front end, so I upgraded back to V29...I now get CITY/PC however, no TMC...it doesn't matter what nav disc I put in, TMC will not enable..

What is wrong here?

Help appreciated.

OK, so if you use ImgBurn to burn V29.1, does it burn the CD in Mode 1 or Mode 2?

Mode 2. I used ImgBurn to look at the properties of the CD I burned off the MDF/MDS, it is Mode 2. Only those that I modified or re-saved got converted to Mode 1.

Yep, that was there on V28.

Have you been into the rds menus to switch TMC back on and specify classic fm. or auto. also you need to turn it back on in traffic information menu - RDS-TMC or something.

If you downgraded then you may have put your system into euro mode and it will need to go back to the dealer for a recode or you can use navcoder software in this forum, with the right interfaces. euro mode is apparent by badly calculated arrival times, and it says car type 7er, in the service menu.

Was it there for V27?

Thanks Eaglesrest...

I did go into the RDS menu, and tried to assign CLASSIC FM to the TMC, and it just sat there and timed out, however, I didn't know I needed to do the RDS - TMC...I'll try again this weekend when I'm home... Thanks!

Tim.
